Formex has introduced the Essence Space Ghost 41mm, a model that debuts a new size for the brand’s Essence collection, previously available in 39 mm and 43 mm case sizes. In addition to its new 41 mm case size and meteorite dial, it features the brand’s new butterfly clasp, re-engineered bracelet screws, and a redesigned screw-down crown.
The Essence Space Ghost 41mm is part of the brand’s 25th anniversary models. Founded in 1999, Formex Watch SA is a family-owned independent watch brand based in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland.
Key Features
Functions
Hours, minutes, and seconds with a stop seconds function. Date at 6 o’clock.
Dial
Image: Notice the vertically brushed and mirror-polished beveled date window “machined directly into the meteorite.” The colour and texture of the date wheel resembles that of the dial, and the blue numerals match the blue details on the dial. Beautifully executed details.
Meteorite dial. Hands, applied hour-markers, and applied Formex logo are blued. Hour and minute hands and hour-markers are filled with Super-LumiNova BGW9.
“Silver-finish dial cut from the 4.5-billion-year-old Muonionalusta meteorite, naturally etched with a unique Widmanstätten pattern—no two dials are alike. A proprietary rhodium treatment by Formex and dial specialist Cadranor protects and enhances the meteorite’s raw texture and luster, while blued hands add contrast and depth.”
Case
Image: On leather strap. Bracelet and straps are interchangeable, without the use of any tools. The brand offers a stainless steel bracelet, various straps, and deployant clasps for sale individually on their website.
Case is made from stainless steel 316L and features a grade 2 titanium container. Caseback is made from stainless steel 316L and screwed to the main case. Diameter: 41 mm. Thickness: 10.60 mm. Lug width: 22 mm. Lug-to-lug distance: 46.50 mm.
Dial side features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside. Caseback features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water resistant up to 100 metres or 330 feet.

Image: The new screw-down crown. Often brands can leave components like the crown unchanged for years, perhaps decades.
The new redesigned screw-down crown is integrated with the brand’s patented case suspension system, “locking in securely without compromising comfort.”
The case suspension system “absorbs shocks to protect the mechanical movement from heavy impacts” and “adds to the comfort on the wrist by adapting to the wearer’s movements.”
Bracelet / Strap / Clasp
The watch is available with both bracelet and strap options.

Left: The stainless steel bracelet with new butterfly clasp. It has been co-developed with Dexel, a sister company. Right: New bracelet screws. “They’ve been re-engineered with a repositioned thread and a freely rotating pin that eliminates the need for thread locking treatments. It’s a small upgrade, but a telling one.”
Stainless steel bracelet with screwed links fitted to a “next-generation, patented micro-adjustable butterfly clasp.” “The new butterfly clasp lets you micro-adjust the fit over a wider range (3-6 mm), on the fly, without opening it, and it still looks completely seamless on the wrist.”
Leather, rubber, and nylon straps fitted to a “carbon fibre deployant clasp with patented gradual on-the-fly 7 mm fine adjustment system.”
Movement
Image: The movement features a Glucydur balance wheel, known to be hard, stable, extremely resistant to deformation, anti-magnetic, and non-corrosive. The skeletonised automatic winding rotor is custom made by Formex. Notice the thermally blued screws. The Sellita is a dependable movement, easily serviceable by competent watchmakers worldwide.
Powered by Sellita SW200-1, a Swiss Made mechanical automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, seconds with stop seconds function, and date. The Sellita version used in this watch is chronometer grade and COSC-certified. Jewels: 26. Frequency: 28,800 or 4 Hz. Power reserve: 41 hours.

“The new case size on the Essence Space Ghost 41mm is in no small part also the result of feedback from our community. It fits perfectly between the 39mm and 43mm models, offering a balanced feel and fit for a wider range of wrist sizes – with the same versatility and performance. Speaking of which, our new micro-adjustable butterfly clasp is a real game-changer, offering more wrist fit flexibility and comfort as well as seamless bracelet aesthetics. Add to this the specially treated meteorite dial, with its blued hands and markers, and you get a clear sense of how Formex keeps pushing forward in both aesthetics and precision engineering. The Essence Space Ghost 41mm is striking, technical, and unmistakably Formex – to the core.” – Raphael Granito, CEO of Formex Watch SA.
Our Thoughts
Image: Writing about this watch has piqued my interest in Formex, a brand whose watches are well-engineered, versatile, and affordable. A brand to keep an eye out for.
Formex has done a remarkable job with the Essence Space Ghost 41mm. They have listened to their customers (hence the 41 mm case size), introduced new and enhanced features (the new butterfly clasp, bracelet screws, and screw-down crown), and debuted them in a watch with a meteorite dial.
The Essence Space Ghost 41mm punches way beyond its price point. While it is sold out (at the time of authoring this article), I look forward to new dial versions housed in the new case size.
