The Rocket Legacy continues with the Brabus Rocket GTS
Based on the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance coupe, Brabus added ‘a bit’ of carbon fiber to create their shooting brake
Suppose you’re a supervillain needing a car that will shock and awe that world and put fear into the hearts of the good people of the world. You could go to Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, or even Cadillac, but no, those won’t do. What you need is something ultra-luxury, exclusive, and show-stopping sinister. Good thing for you, Brabus exists, and they just released a new Rocket GTS in full carbon fiber. If Darth Vader piloted something other than a Tie Fighter, this is what he’d be operating.
The Brabus Rocket GTS is based on the already powerful Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance with its twin-turbo V8 and hybrid powertrain. It might make a mere 181 horsepower and 148 pound-feet more than its donor chassis, but the carbon fiber allows the car to achieve a blistering 0-62 mph in 2.6 seconds and top out at 197 mph.
This literal Rocket (in many ways) has nearly 1000 horsepower and is limited to 1195 pound-feet of torque to protect the Mercedes nine-speed automatic. Think about this for a moment: the package is capable of 1342 pound-feet but it limits you to save the transmission. Now, anyone buying one of these million-dollar cars isn’t concerned about an expensive transmission, other than embarrassingly getting stranded somewhere, so it’s likely more protection for Brabus’ reputation than anything they’ve limited this car on torque.
The carbon fiber body is where this car makes the money make sense. The coupe body was trashed in favor of carbon and the shooting brake rear-end. They developed the body utilizing state-of-the-art CAD and CFD technology and put their carbon super-hero-crushing car into a wind tunnel to optimize the functionality of the custom bodywork. The front and rear axle downforces were optimized. The aero was fine-tuned so that you’re feeling stable at the helm, even at near 200 mph.
The shooting brake’s rear is topped off with the Brabus Rocket apron, exposed carbon diffuser, and four illuminated, exposed carbon-encased titanium tailpipes. Did you read that? It has an illuminated rear exhaust that’s made of carbon and titanium! If this isn’t something a supervillain churned up, I honestly don’t know why anyone else would want to frighten the general populace with such things.
Cheers!
