Bentley showcases eFuels with the new Continental GT Speed

Going far beyond just the CO2 output of the car, the event had a significant drop in emissions from last years event

Bentley recently showcased its commitment to the environment by using eFuels and several other carbon-reducing tactics during its global media launch of the Continental GT Speed coupe and convertible. They invited 157 people to Switzerland and demonstrated how the eFuel, sourced from Porsche at the Haru Oni pilot plant in Chile, can reduce emissions.

The Continental used was fueled by 75% efuel and 25% conventional gasoline (R75). The media drives covered 8000 miles, 4500 hairpin turns, and 1,400,000 ft of elevation. Using the R75 blend, the event saw a 30% reduction in overall carbon impact per guest. When all aspects of the event were combined together (fleet hybrid vehicles charged via local renewable energy, the hotel being totally renewably-powered, etc.), there was a 93% drop in emissions compared to the prior year’s event.

The new fourth-generation Continental GT speed is certified at 29g/km of CO2. Bentley is serious about its emission-reducing capability, as the same car is also rated at 217mpg, and this new car is a hybrid. The eFuel used is compatible with conventional engines and is produced from ambient CO2 in the air and hydrogen from renewable energy sources. It is compatible with existing fuel station infrastructure and blended with traditional gasoline. The target of such fuels is to produce no more CO2 when burned than what is used to make it.

Cheers!
