911 GT3 gets both harder and softer at the same time with added touring package

Both the GT3 and GT3 Touring will get an individual package to up the customizability

Porsche announced this week that they are releasing a new GT3 for their 911. Previously only available as a GT3 RS in the 992 body, the new GT3 will release with the hardcore variant we’re used to and a softer, more family-oriented, touring package.

The big news here is the touring package for the GT3. The added (back) rear seat is a desirable option for anyone who wishes to stuff small adults into the back of their race-inspired 911. I don’t think the fixed back bucket seat will harm rear seat usability, as Porsche has thought of this. They’re also offering a folding backrest made of CFRP on their front seats as an option. This optional seat has electric height adjustment, manual longitudinal, thorax airbag, and even an extra optional three-stage seat heater.

Depending on if you go for the full hardcore GT3 or the lightly-less-so GT3 Touring, you’re going to be given an individual option with either the Weissach package or the Leichtbrau (lightweight) package, respectively. The GT3 Weissach package adds better configuration for the racetrack. It adds a different anti-roll bar, CFRP coupling rods and shear panel on the rear axle, and a CFRP roof, among many other exterior pieces. In contrast, the GT3 Touring Leichtbrau package adds a color-matched roof, CFRP coupling rods and shear panel on the rear axle, magnesium wheels, and lightweight door panels as well as the 911 S/T’s shorter shifter.

Let’s not forget that haloed manual transmission is available with the GT3 and GT3 Touring. It is about a half second slower to 60 mph, but no one will care as we’re all aware automatically shifter cars do the job quicker than the human hand. You’ll be happy to know that the GT3 also comes with a traditional rotary ignition (read: it has a metal key you turn) whether you order the automatic or not. Tweaked and honed for a new generation, the GT3 is highly customizable and should be ready for sales soon. The price is a bit higher so be sure to bring your wallet stuffed with cash as this ~$225,000 GT3 is about $40,000 more than its predecessor.
