Parmigiani Fleurier introduces the new Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date

This classic two-hander timepiece has a Golden Siena colour dial featuring a Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché finish.

Parmigiani Fleurier introduced the Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date during Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024, held from April 9th until April 15th, 2024. The “Tonda PF Micro-Rotor initiated a quest for absolute aesthetic perfection the moment it launched in September 2021.”  It has also been integral to the brand’s revival.

The new Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date joins the Tonda PF collection “in the same clean, minimalist aesthetic.”  It has a Golden Siena colour dial featuring a Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché finish, and an automatic movement with a micro-rotor.

“In the creation of the new Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date, we endeavored to offer to ‘the purist of the purists’ an object that embodies absolute clarity. Every element of this timepiece reflects our vision of discreet and timeless refinement. From the deliberate absence of visual complications to the meticulous selection of ‘Golden Siena’ dial nuances, each choice is guided by an unwavering commitment to aesthetic purity.”Guido Terreni, CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier.

Key Features

Functions

The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date’s functions include:

– Central Hours and Minutes.

Dial

The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date’s dial features include:

– It has a Golden Siena colour dial, featuring a Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché finish.

– Its skeletonized delta-shaped hour and minute hands are made from 18K gold and are rhodium plated.

– The 12 applied hour-markers are made from 18K gold and are rhodium plated.

– A minute track encircles the outer dial, graduated in increments of 5 minutes each.

– The brand’s logo is applied at 12 o’clock, and “Swiss Made” is displayed discreetly at 6 o’clock.

“The color of the Golden Siena dial has on elegant appeal and diffuses warm serenity. In its quest for distinctiveness, Parmigiani Fleurier created a shade with moiré effects directly inspired by the rich “sienna” palette, thus celebrating the subtle nuances and naturalness of the earth. Long a favourite of elite brands, this refined and elegant hue goes perfectly with the masculine wardrobe.”

“The Grain d’orge guilloché: The House’s signature treasure. In accordance with the brand’s highest standards, the dial is finely hand guilloché. The Grain d’Orge signature of Parmigiani Fleurier dials is a classic of Haute Horlogerie. Very small in size to the point of requiring extreme visual attention to appreciate its fine and delicate texture, the dial plate’s guilloché pattern provides a large surface area for the watch hands.”

Movement

The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date’s movement features include:

– It is powered by mechanical automatic manufacture calibre PF703 featuring a platinum 950 micro-rotor.

– The calibre’s hand-finishing includes Côtes de Genèva and Perlage. Its platinum 950 micro-rotor features a Grain d’Orge guilloché finish.

– It has a diameter of 30 mm.

– It has a thickness of 3.07 mm.

– It has 176 components.

– It has 29 jewels.

– It beats at a frequency of 21,600 vph or 3 Hz.

– It has a power reserve of 48 hours.

“The 3.07mm-thick PF703 caliber with automatic winding by micro-rotor is decorated in accordance with the rules of watchmaking excellence for the utmost in elegant finesse. The micro-rotor option, complex in its creation, remains the prerogative of top-flight watch brands. This small oscillating weight in platinum ensures high density and mobility and is fully integrated into the thickness of the movement, unlike a classic, half-moon-shaped rotor, which would have covered it. This more sophisticated construction allows a significant reduction in the thickness of the watch.”

Case and Bracelet

The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date’s case and bracelet features include:

– Its case is made from stainless-steel, both polished and satin finished.

– It features a knurled bezel made from platinum 950.

– Its case diameter is 40 mm.

– Its case thickness is 7.8 mm.

– The crown at 3 o’clock is screwed-in and has a diameter of 4.3 mm.

– On its dial side, it features an ARunic anti-reflective sapphire crystal.

– On its caseback side, it features a sapphire crystal.

– Each timepiece’s individual serial number and “Parmigiani Fleurier” is engraved on the caseback.

– It is water resistant up to 100 metres.

– Its bracelet is made from stainless steel, both polished and satin finished. It features a folding clasp made of stainless steel.

Our Thoughts

Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date is a well-executed interpretation of a classic two-hander timepiece. I have previously mentioned that classic three-hander timepieces are often the hardest to execute. I believe the same applies to classic two-hander timepieces. The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date is an even better-looking version than the version with date, at least to my eyes. While a date function is a useful feature (and a commercial one too), if not done right they can look out of place. Eventually I am sure Parmigiani Fleurier will unveil additional variants of the No Date, incorporating different dial colours and precious metal cases and bracelets.

The Tonda PF Micro-Rotor No Date is an ideal timepiece for a collector seeking a daily-wear timepiece, one laden with horological details that whisper. These include its Grain d’Orge hand-guilloché dial, 18K gold rhodium plated hands and hour-markers, polished and satin finished stainless steel case and bracelet, platinum 950 knurled bezel, and its top-notch and beautifully finished automatic movement. All this at a relatively accessible price. A superb addition to any collection.
