Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas tourbillon is now available in titanium

The Overseas tourbillon is now available in a Grade 5 titanium case and bracelet. It joins the Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection as the Overseas Tourbillon Reference 6000V/210T-H032.

“In 2021, the first titanium Overseas withstood an expedition with explorer Cory Richards. This new all-titanium Overseas tourbillon shares the same adventurous spirit. Titanium is an exceptionally strong material, and producing this level of finishing is a highly demanding process. A tourbillon regulator pierces through the blue dial, adding a light feel while maintaining the watch’s toughness.”

Vacheron Constantin introduced a titanium version of the Overseas tourbillon, reference 6000V/210T-H032 during Watches and Wonders Geneva 2024, held during April 9th until April 15th, 2024. It is an all-titanium version of the Overseas tourbillon, first introduced as a steel version in 2019. It joins the Overseas collection’s tourbillon range, which includes a version in steel, pink gold, and in white gold with a bezel featuring 60 baguette-cut diamonds. The new titanium version also features the Overseas “collection’s emblematic blue dial.”

Titanium is a difficult metal to work with. Yet, it is light and robust, “whose hypoallergenic properties make it the ideal material for sports and technical watches.”

“Given the rigidity of titanium, any metal finishing work on these timepieces requires rigorous discipline, care and attention to detail, bearing in mind that only grade 2 and grade 5 titanium are suitable for this type of operation. Special care has been lavished on the Overseas tourbillon to create a delicate vertical satin-brushed finish on the bracelet with its polished link angles as well as on the caseback, while the bezel features a circular satin-brushed finish on a sandblasted ring. “With its 22K gold peripheral oscillating weight arming the barrel for a comfortable 80-hour power reserve, the movement testifies to Vacheron Constantin’s technical mastery in the construction of ultra-thin complication movements.”

Our Thoughts

Founded in 1755, Vacheron Constantin is the oldest continuous watchmaker in existence. Along with Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, it is part of the Holy Trinity. Several of the most beautiful, artistic, musical, complex and astronomical timepieces have been created by Vacheron Constantin during the past 269 years. Every new timepiece or collection they launch has big shoes to fill.

The present third-generation Overseas collection took the watch collecting world by storm shortly after its launch in 2016. Where Vacheron Constantin was once the “sleeper” or “quieter” of the Holy Trinity (some even referred to them as the grandfather’s timepiece brand), the third generation Overseas became the rocket fuel that eluded them for decades. Overnight, collectors previously unaware of Vacheron Constantin, came knocking for an Overseas timepiece. Obtaining few models from the Overseas collection became (almost) as difficult and lengthy as obtaining a Royal Oak from Audemars Piguet or Nautilus and Aquanaut from Patek Philippe. However, Vacheron Constantin did not forget its historical roots because of this newfound popularity. Year after year, they continue to churn out some of the most gorgeous dress, Métiers d’Art, bejewelled, technical, grand complications, piece unique, and other timepieces. In addition to expanding the Overseas range itself, often with complication and grand complication movements, such as the Overseas Tourbillon.

The Overseas Tourbillon in titanium is proof that while they have one foot in the future, they have not forgotten their past. It is a grand complication sports timepiece powered by a movement that has few equals, featuring Vacheron Constantin’s renowned and exemplary movement finishing and expertise in tourbillons. Its Grade 5 titanium case and bracelet are top notch, finished beautifully. The customary leather and rubber straps, adds versatility to the timepiece.

The Overseas tourbillon in titanium is irresistible. It has few equals in its category. Funds permitting, it could be my one and only timepiece. We at The Cornea Impression cannot wait to see it in the flesh and do a hands-on review.
