Pagani Huayra Epitome is a one-off Huayra with a manual gearbox

This special commission also gets a reworked body with a six-way exhaust system

In 2011, Pagani introduced the Huayra hypercar as a successor to its first-ever model, the Zonda. While the Italian supercar specialist has already unveiled Huayra’s successor named the Utopia in 2022, Pagani continues to put out special edition Huayra units as its typical farewell tradition. The latest one to join the bandwagon is called the Pagani Huayra Epitome and as the name suggests, it is at the peak of driver-centric experience because it’s the first Huayra ever to be equipped with a manual transmission.

Devised by the Grandi Complicazioni division – Pagani’s special department for ultra-limited series cars, the Pagani Huayra Epitome is a one-off commission developed in conjunction with a special client who wanted to “create a unique example that would take the Huayra to its highest expression”.

To date, the Pagani Epitome is the first and only Huayra to be equipped with a manual transmission. Mated to the Xtrac seven-speed transverse gearbox is a 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 engine, sourced from Mercedes-AMG, to put out 864 hp and 1,110Nm torques. While this is the most unique Huayra powertrain on offer, it is also one of the most powerful setups equipped on Pagani’s second model.

The client’s desire for heightened driver enjoyment didn’t halt at the transmission as Pagani tweaked the suspension as well. Now, the Pagani Huayra Epitome boasts improved vehicle control courtesy of reduced dive-in acceleration, pitch-in braking, and roll-in corners. Part of the suspension tweaks also involves the installation of a ‘super soft’ mode for better road comfort when the going gets rough that can remain deployed until 150kph. Post which, the shock absorber returns to its standard position.

Pagani claims every creation with the Grandi Complicazioni division is a collaborative process where the client and designers become co-creators. For the Huayra Epitome, it took a total of 19 months for the hypercar’s final conceptualisation to materialise spanning nine months of idea-sharing and ten months of design work by the expert team. Lorenzo Kerkoc, Head of Pagani Grandi Complicazioni, further comments, “It is a long and complex process because developing components dedicated to a single car requires the same time as those for series production cars.”

A track-special Pagani Huayra Imola Coupe already resides in the client’s private collection. Keeping that as inspiration, the client asked for a wheel setup featuring seven spokes at the front and nine spokes at the back to retain a classic Roadster silhouette with a focus on lightness for track use. The Grandi Complicazioni further reworked the body on the Huayra Epitome by creating a bespoke front bumper with integrated splitter to increase downforce. The Epitome is the only Pagani one-off to feature four light units installed on the front hood and two DRL elements installed on the bumper. The rear has been completely revised now featuring a not-four-but six-way titanium exhaust system with additional dual exhaust outlets incorporated into the all-new rear bumper. The rear half now gets a body-integrated wing that’s designed to appear as if sculpted by the wind and the tail lights also receive a new aerodynamic cover over them to reduce airflow resistance.
