The First-Ever Range Rover Electric Teased

Range Rover, one of four umbrella brands under JLR, has dropped the first teaser images of the first-ever Range Rover Electric. To be built on the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform in Solihull, United Kingdom, alongside its mild and strong hybrid siblings, the Range Rover Electric is touted to deliver V8-level performance and all-terrain capabilities. Also, it’ll wade through 85cm deep water, which is only a couple of inches shy of three feet.

The Range Rover Electric will have electric drive units and batteries assembled at JLR’s new Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom. The inclusion of 800-volt electrical architecture points towards DC fast charging support. The Brits also say, “We are on target to create the quietest and most refined Range Rover ever created”, with the help of technologies such as active road noise cancellation.

On-road testing of prototypes is already underway. During the testing programme, the pure-electric luxury SUV will be put through some of the most challenging terrains and climatic conditions, ranging from -40C to +50C.

A clear takeaway from the teaser images is that the pure-electric Range Rover will look broadly similar to the ones already in production. However, a few tweaks in design will make it stand out to a keen observer.
