Kia India Lists New Special Edition Sonet

Dubbed Aurochs Edition, it is available in petrol and diesel guises.

There’s a new version of the Kia Sonet that you might be interested in. It’s called Aurochs Edition, based on the HTX trim level. And it’s available in both petrol and diesel guises. More on that in a bit. First, the variant-wise price list:

• 1.0 Turbo-Petrol iMT: INR 11.85 Lakh

• 1.0 Turbo-Petrol DCT: INR 12.39 Lakh

• 1.5 Diesel iMT: INR 12.65 Lakh

• 1.5 Diesel AT: INR 13.45 Lakh

Those four Aurochs Edition versions cost INR 40,000 more than their respective HTX derivatives. So, what do you get for that extra amount? In short, a bit more theatre in the exterior design. That comes courtesy of Tangerine accents on the front skid plate, grille, 16-inch alloy wheels, side skid plates, rear skid plate and the ‘Aurochs’ badge on the front grille. And for the body, only four monotone shades are available – Grey, White, Black and Silver.

As you’d expect, there’s no change on the features list compared to the standard HTX trim level. That means the Sonet Auroches Edition packs stuff like automatic climate control, auto headlamps, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, push-button start, an electric sunroof and cruise control.

And yes, the engines remain unaltered as well. The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol pumps out 118hp/172Nm, whereas the 1.5-litre diesel produces 114hp/250Nm. For the Aurochs Edition, one could have both those powerplants with the 6-speed iMT. Alternatively, the former can be had with a 7-speed DCT (Dual-clutch Transmission). In contrast, the latter offers two-pedal convenience with a 6-speed torque converter.

The Kia Sonet is one of the popular models in the subcompact SUV space. It rivals various potent products, including the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV300. So, if you had to buy one, which would it be?
