Virtus And Taigun To Get New Variants

In the mix will be new colour options, including one with a matte finish.

Volkswagen India’s locally-conceived five-star cars – Virtus and Taigun (Global NCAP rated them!) – are set to receive a dose of refreshment in their portfolios. At a recent press event, the German carmaker unveiled a range of new variants of the sedan and the SUV. Not only will they make the lineup more exhaustive, but they will also make the stronger engine more accessible.

Here goes the list. The Volkswagen Virtus will get a manual transmission option with the 1.5-litre TSI motor in the GT Plus spec. The sedan’s sibling, the Taigun, will also gain the same variant and a 1.5 GT DSG derivative. Notice the ‘Plus’ is missing in the latter, which means the TSI-DSG combo will become accessible to a broader audience.

Then there will be the ‘GT Limited Collection’ for the duo. This will comprise limited-run versions of the Virtus GT Plus DSG & GT Plus MT in an exclusive shade – Deep Black Pearl. The same goes for Taigun GT Plus DSG & GT Plus MT derivatives, which will get another colour option – Carbon Steel Matt.

At the event were two Special Edition concepts of the Taigun, namely ‘Sport’ and ‘Trail’. While both featured body decals to justify their name tags, the ‘Sport’ also boasted a ‘TSI Powered’ badge at the rear. In addition, Volkswagen has added a new ‘Lava Blue’ colour option for all the Taigun and the Virtus variants. The new variants and the ‘GT Limited Collection’ market introduction will commence in June 2023.
