Tata Nexon EV Max Goes #Dark

And the #Dark-ness catches on! Tata Motors has extended its cult #Dark range by inducting the Nexon EV Max to the party. The Nexon EV Max #Dark is available in two derivatives – XZ+ Lux and XZ+ Lux with a 7.2kW AC charger. While the former comes with a price tag of INR 19.04 lakh, the latter, at INR 19.54 lakh, costs INR 50,000 more.

At first glance, the newcomer seems to follow the standardised norm set by its maker. So, the Midnight Black body colour is complemented by Charcoal Grey alloy wheels, Satin Black Humanity Line, ‘#Dark’ badges on fenders, a shark fin antenna and roof rails. Indoors, the darkened theme features a jewelled control knob, glossy piano black dashboard with a tri-arrow pattern, leatherette seats and door trims with tri-arrow perforations and EV blue highlight stitches on the leatherette steering wheel cover and seats.

Besides those design cues, the Nexon EV Max #Dark also becomes the first in the model range, including the conventionally-powered derivatives, to borrow the 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system from the Safari and Harrier. The unit ropes in wireless support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a high-definition rear-view camera, a better sound system and voice recognition for six regional languages. In addition, the system comes with a fresh user interface and can understand 180+ commands in English, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi.

And let’s not forget that the Tata Nexon EV Max, in its XZ+ Lux form, packs a lot of other features. The list includes a wireless mobile charger, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, cruise control, auto-dimming IRVM, an electric sunroof, auto headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

As the name suggests, the Nexon EV Max offers the best overall performance in the battery-powered model’s range. One front-mounted electric motor delivers 143hp/250Nm, enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of under nine seconds. Backing the propulsion system is a 40.5kWh lithium-ion battery, which is efficient enough to offer up to 453km of range. When plugged into a 50kW DC charger, the battery can replenish itself from zero to 80 per cent in 56 minutes.

The Tata Nexon EV Max is a pocket-friendly, zero-emissions model compared to the MG ZS EV and the Hyundai Kona Electric. However, the question is – would you spend INR 20 lakh on a sub-compact SUV?
