Toyota brings the GR86 sports car to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The new GR86 is an evolution of the GT86 sports car with more power and style

The Toyota GT86 has been a highlight car among enthusiasts for its back-to-basic approach and sporty driving experience. The sports car sold for almost a decade before Toyota introduced the second generation iteration in 2021 and renamed it the GR86. And now, this highly anticipated sports car enters the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to expand Toyota’s growing GR portfolio.

Abdul Latif Jameel Motors, an authorized distributor of Toyota vehicles in Saudi Arabia since 1955, recently unveiled the new Toyota GR86 in Saudi Arabia. Toyota claims the GR86 is an evolution of the GT86 as it retains the classic configuration of a front-mounted engine with rear-wheel-drive while offering more power and style.

The new GR86 gets powered by a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated boxer engine putting out 228hp and 250Nm torques. That’s a 23hp and 28Nm increase from the previous iteration. Courtesy of this new engine which features a host of tweaks in the intake and exhaust systems, performance figures also get a bump as the new GR86 makes the 0-100kph sprint in 6.3 seconds, up from 7 seconds. The engine can be mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.

A new GR-specific ‘G Mesh’ grille adorns the face of the GR86 up front with angular LED headlights complementing the aerodynamic front air dams and vents. The rear also features tweaked tail lights and tightened wheel arches that allow it to exhibit a wider stance. Passengers get sport front bucket seats with side bolstering as standard that will keep them in place. Creature comforts such as an 8-inch instrument panel with smartphone connectivity, a dual-zone air conditioning system, and a six-speaker sound system have also been provided.

Kei Fujita, Chief Representative, Middle East and Central Asia Representative ‎Office, Toyota Motor Corporation said, “We are very excited to bring the new GR86 to our customers in the Middle East. Designed for enthusiasts by enthusiasts, the latest addition to our GR range offers true sports car performance with a focus on added stability, power, and improved aerodynamics. Importantly, it is not simply for purists and those with high levels of experience; its rewards can be discovered day-to-day on the open road as much as on the track.”
