Dubai is about to host its first Sailing Grand Prix

Sailing’s most exciting race is about to come to the shores of one of the world’s most iconic cities.

Dubai is a host of multiple international sporting events. Golf, Tennis, Motorsport, Rugby, Cricket, etc. Now they have added another feather to their cap and Sailing to their sporting calendar.

The first Dubai Sail Gran Prix will be held at Mina Rashid. Mina Rashid is situated in the idyllic heart of Old Dubai, a stone’s throw away from The Al Shindaga Historic district, Al Seef retail area, the Dubai Museum and the wholesale textile market. Docked at the centre of the Mina Rashid port is the iconic QE2 cruise liner, which I am sure will have fabulous views of the race.

Dubai is the seventh stop in SailGP’s, including iconic venues such as Bermuda, Chicago, Saint-Tropez, Singapore, Sydney and San Francisco.

Those with their boats can witness the racing up close and personal from the water right o the race course perimeter.

National teams from Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland and United States will battle it out over two days of racing in identical F50 foiling catamarans, which can reach speeds of 100km/h.

SailGP CEO Russell Coutts said: “We are excited to introduce the world’s most exciting racing on-water for the first time to a new wave of fans across Dubai and the wider Middle East. This would not have been possible without the support of our dedicated partners, P&O Marinas, Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Tourism, as we work together to bring the world’s top athletes here to harness the power of nature. I am looking forward to seeing the nine teams showcase our spectacular F50s in Dubai.”

Hamza Mustafa, COO of P&O Marinas, said: “At Mina Rashid, we look after some of the most exclusive yachts in the world. It is an honour and a privilege to host the first Sail GP event in Dubai.”

Fans should head to SailGP.com/Dubai to get more details and purchase tickets.
