SOB! Singer Will No Longer Build its ‘classic’ 911 

Whenever someone talks about a classic 911, 9/11 people (see what I did there?) will surely talk about Singer. The American company has been working its magic on classic 964s for about a decade and petrolheads have been loving them. Now, head honcho Rob Dickson has announced in an interview with TopGear that they will stop taking orders for their ‘classic’ reimagined 911s.

Dickson said that they have stopped the 964 production at 450 units and explained that halting the production will increase their value. “There are tens of thousands of 964s! And there’s plenty of ratty ones which we don’t feel too bad about reimagining,” he said.

He further added, “We’re just trying to be respectful to the guys that are buying the cars. We want to maintain the values of the cars if they change hands afterwards of course, which I think has more to do with the perception of Singer as a ‘brand’ over and above the quality of the cars.”

However, it’s not all doom and gloom as Singer will not be working on its Porsche 911 Turbo Study. The clever boffins at Singer are now at work at restoring one of the most iconic 911 of them all.

The initial Turbo Study requested by the owner will be finished in gorgeous Wolf Blue and have carbon fibre bodywork. It will have a 3.8-litre air-cooled Mezger flat six engine which will produce around 450 horsepower and send power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. Sweet.
