Audi has presented a fifth-generation A6 allroad, which received numerous improvements over its predecessor. Namely, the A6 allroad gets a widened body, higher ground clearance, electrified engines, and advanced chassis tech, which contribute to improved handling across various road conditions. As for the engines, the A6 allroad can be equipped with two – a plug-in hybrid drive or a diesel V6.
What Changes in Design Does the New Audi A6 allroad Have?
The new A6 allroad receives an expanded body by 11 cm compared to the A6 Avant. Moreover, it also features allroad-specific design elements, wide wheel arches, and 21-inch alloy wheels.
Audi preserved the model-specific split personality, with the upper part of the car featuring sporty lines and the lower part featuring robust components for protection during light off-road excursions.
How Is the allroad Better at Off-Roading Compared to the Regular Model?
As for the Audi A6 allroad, it gains 34 mm of ground clearance compared to the A6 Avant. Also, this model is equipped with an adaptive air suspension system that allows the ride height to be adjusted by up to 55 mm.
The suspension is further reinforced by revised progressive steering, which increases rigidity while providing improved responsiveness and driver feedback. In addition, wider tires and all-wheel drive are included.
Does All-Wheel Steering Make a Difference?
The A6 Allroad features an optimized all-wheel steering system. Up to five degrees of steering angle in the opposite direction are available at low speeds, allowing the driver to better control the turning radius.
Up to two degrees of steering angle in the same direction as the front wheels is available at higher speeds to enhance road stability.
What Technologies and Comforts Are Featured Inside?
The interior is equipped with Audi’s latest digital interface, which includes the MMI panoramic display. The interface consists of an 11.9-inch instrument cluster display and a 14.5-inch center touchscreen. Optionally, buyers can choose the 10.9-inch passenger screen.
Other options for added comfort include ventilation and massaging seats, four-zone air-conditioning, an air quality package, improved soundproofing, and a dimming panoramic sunroof. The rear flexible seats and the luggage area on the roof provide more space and convenience while traveling or being outdoors.
What Powertrain Choices Are Available?
Audi is introducing the A6 allroad as a plug-in hybrid for the first time. The A6 allroad e-hybrid powertrain features both a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine capable of 248 BHP and an electric motor capable of 141 BHP. This means the total power output is 362 BHP and the peak torque is 500 Nm.
The A6 allroad e-hybrid has a 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, from which 20.7 kWh is available, and provides an electric range of up to 95 km under the WLTP test conditions. It can be charged at up to 11 kW AC, and the battery takes just 2.5 hours to fully charge.
Another powertrain is the 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine, delivering 295 BHP and 580 Nm of torque. There is also Audi’s MHEV Plus technology, which provides a boost of 24 BHP when needed. In addition, there is an electric air compressor, which improves the car’s responsiveness.
Both engines come with quattro all-wheel drive.
