Vacheron Constantin unveils a new version of the Overseas Tourbillon

Now presented with a deep red dial and a titanium case.

What is the new version of the Vacheron Constantin (VC) Overseas Tourbillon?

It is VC’s Overseas Tourbillon with a deep red dial and a grade 5 titanium case, the first time the brand has combined this dial colour with this metal.

“The Overseas watches form a collection that lends itself beautifully to new colour explorations. This became clear when the Maison introduced a pink hue on certain women’s models and, more recently, intense green or gold dial colours. From there, it was interesting to continue by introducing new variations that bring a touch of originality. The deep red colour, elegant and intense, fits perfectly into this vision.” – Christian Selmoni, Heritage & Style Director at VC.

What are the other versions of this model?

The Overseas Tourbillon has been in VC’s catalogue for a few years. Other versions include a blue dial and a stainless steel case, blue dial and a pink gold case, blue dial and a white gold case with its bezel adorned with 60 baguette-cut diamonds (Overseas Tourbillon High Jewellery), and a blue dial with a grade 5 titanium case. The range also includes the Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton in both a grade 5 titanium and a pink gold case.

What are its dial features?

Image: A lovely dial colour. Notice the brand’s 18K white gold Maltese Cross emblem applied at 12 o’clock. The tourbillon is also Maltese Cross-shaped.

The deep red dial features a “sunburst satin-finished base” and a lacquered finish. Hour and minute hands and applied hour-markers are crafted from 18K white gold and coated with blue Super-LumiNova. Minute track features a velvet-finish.

What is the case, bracelet and strap features?

Image: The case features a soft iron casing ring that ensures anti-magnetic protection. The 22K 3N yellow gold peripheral rotor allows for both a clear view of the movement and reduction in its thickness.

The case is made from grade 5 titanium. It measures 42.5 mm (diameter) * 10.39 mm (thickness). Dial side and caseback feature a sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 5 bar or (approximately) 50 metres.

“Titanium is particularly prized for its inherent qualities: hypoallergenic, lightweight, and possessing high mechanical and corrosion resistance. In short, it is a material perfectly suited to the Overseas spirit, a watch designed to withstand the rigors of travel.” – Christian Selmoni.

Three bracelet and strap options: Grade 5 titanium integrated bracelet fitted with a grade 5 titanium triple-folding clasp featuring push-pieces and a comfort adjustment system. Deep red rubber strap and a white rubber strap are provided, along with an interchangeable grade 5 titanium folding clasp.

Is it powered by a slow beat movement?

Left: Front side. Right: Caseback side. Movement finishing features a circular-grained mainplate, hand-beveled bridges decorated with Côtes de Genève, a delicately cradled tourbillon shank, grained wheels, and chamfered and polished screws. “The openworked tourbillon cage incorporates a peripheral drive, eliminating the need for a central pinion. This configuration ensures optimal energy transmission from the mainspring barrel to the balance wheel.”

Yes. It is powered by Calibre 2160, an ultra-thin tourbillon movement that drives the hours, minutes, and small seconds (on the tourbillon cage). It measures 31 mm or 13 ½ lignes (diameter) * 5.65 mm (thickness), features 188 parts, 30 jewels, beats at a luxurious rate of 2.5 Hz or 18,000 vph, and has a power reserve of (approximately) 80 hours.

What do we think?

Image: One watch, three unique personalities. The innovative strap change system made the Overseas among the most versatile watch families in the world. The titanium bracelet’s links are half Maltese Cross-shaped and are polished and satin-finished.

Vacheron Constantin’s third-generation Overseas collection has come off age since its launch in 2016. Among the most recognizable and desirable watch families in the world, it helped put the brand on the “horological map.” The Overseas Tourbillon with its deep red dial and titanium case is yet another example of the brand’s stunning aesthetics and exceptional watchmaking.
