Dubai Airshow 2023: SunExpress To Buy Up To 90 Boeing Jets

Born in 1989, SunExpress is a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. At the ongoing Dubai Airshow 2023, the carrier has inked an agreement with Boeing to purchase up to 90 single-aisle jets. The paperwork specifies a firm order for twenty-eight units of 737-8 and seventeen of 737-10 and an option to buy an additional forty-five 737 Max aircraft. This new order builds on the SunExpress’ previous one for forty-two 737-8s, nine of which have been delivered by Boeing.

The Turkey-based airline will have doubled its fleet by the time the latest order is completed. Here’s what Max Kownatzki, CEO at SunExpress, said in an official statement:

Over the next decade, we will more than double our fleet, reaching a 150-aircraft fleet by 2033. Also, the addition of the 737-10, the newest 737 MAX plane with up to 230 seats, to our fleet will allow us to strengthen our capacity further. SunExpress is well-positioned for the future and will expand its network with a more fuel-efficient and environmentally sustainable aircraft fleet, while continuing to fulfill its role as Türkiye’s tourism ambassador.

Morgan, Pininfarina Are Working On Something Special

Some developments are worth mentioning just for their highlights, even if you have nothing concrete. British brand Morgan Motor Company (MMC) has announced it is working on a “collaborative vehicle project” with Italian firm Pininfarina.

Morgan is tight-lipped about this upcoming vehicle. However, the Malvern-based carmaker says the project is a “limited run for individual commissions”. Further details about it will be released in 2024, Morgan’s 115th year.

Morgan and Pininfarina collectively have more than two centuries of coachbuilding experience. While Morgan was founded in 1910, Pininfarina came into existence in 1930, 93 years ago. Here’s what Massimo Fumarola, CEO at MMC, shared along with this development:

Coachbuilding is not constrained by trends and borders, as we are discovering through this collaboration. The shared passion between Morgan and Pininfarina is clear, and we look forward to sharing much more with our community in due course.

China’s Geely already has dealerships in Dubai and Sharjah. And yes, it is in the process of opening one in UAE’s capital as well. However, since that touchpoint will go live next year, Geely has decided to take an unconventional route. A Geely Boutique has opened in Abu Dhabi’s Mushrif Mall. It serves as a mini showroom where visitors can get all the information regarding the brand and the models it sells in the country.

The models on display include the all-new Tugella, the Coolray SUV, the Emgrand sedan, the Geometry C EV and the Monjaro. Those interested can take a test drive and book a Geely from this temporary touchpoint, which will shut down once the Abu Dhabi showroom opens.

Air India Signs Intermodal Agreement With WorldTicket

Those travelling to Germany on an Air India flight will appreciate this new development. The carrier has inked an intermodal interline agreement with WorldTicket, the exclusive distributor for Europe’s largest railway operator – Deutsche Bahn.

This enables Air India customers to travel on a single intermodal ticket beyond Frankfurt to over 5,600 train stations in Germany on the Deutsche Bahn network. It especially comes in handy for travelling to cities without airports. Furthermore, the travellers can take train connections to and from Amsterdam, Brussels and Zurich via Air India’s Frankfurt link and benefit from the same baggage allowance as allowed on the flights. WorldTicket, an IATA travel partner, also has its AOC-holding airline – FlexFlight (W2).

Before this partnership, Air India entered into a similar intermodal agreement to provide travellers access to a network of rail and bus operators across the UK, Italy, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. Presently, intermodal tickets are available with travel agents worldwide. Progressively, it will be extended to Air India’s own sales channels.

How Fast Do You Think Can A Rimac Nevera Go In Reverse?

Rimac is back at hogging headlines in the automotive world. The latest record set by the Never Time Attack Edition will surely blow your mind. Here goes – at the Automotive Testing Papenburg facility in Germany, the electric hypercar set the speed record for cars driving backwards (in reverse). The maximum speed clocked was 275.74kmph. People from the Guinness World Records witnessed and verified it using data recorded by Dewesoft – a third party. Absolutely astonishing!

For Rimac, 2023 has been a year for setting mind-boggling records with its current flagship – the Nevera. For instance, the Croatian brand set 23 performance records in a single day with the EV in question earlier this year. A few months later, it took the ‘Time Attack’ derivative of the Nevera to the Nurburgring. By lapping the 20.6km stretch in 7 minutes and 5.298 seconds, the 1,888hp EV destroyed the previous lap record for production EVs by 20 seconds.
