There’s Now A JV Between Vietnam Airlines And China Southern

It’ll go live on August 1, 2025.

A first-ever joint venture (JV) has been formalised between a Chinese and a Vietnamese airline. After receiving all the relevant approvals, Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines have confirmed a JV that takes effect on August 1, 2025. The idea is simple: combine the strengths and resources to create a stronger network and smooth connectivity options for passengers travelling between China and Vietnam.

Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines have launched Inter-Airline Through Check-in (IATCI), which allows passengers to fetch boarding passes for up to three connecting flights at their initial point of departure. Moreover, frequent flyers of both carriers will get benefits such as priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling, and increased luggage allowance.

The two carriers entered a strategic partnership in 2010 when they activated a codeshare agreement. Then, in 2022, Vietnam Airlines and China Southern Airlines deepened their ties with a Corporate Partnership Agreement. It opened up more avenues for the duo to explore and mutually benefit from, including commerce, services, and technical operations. By using each other’s services at airports where they operate, they improved operational efficiency.

Both airlines offer multiple connections to each other’s home countries. Vietnam Airlines has direct flights to Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It also operates nonstop services from Nha Trang to Tianjin, Wuhan, Nanjing, Shanghai, Jinan, Changzhou, and Wuxi. On the other hand, China Southern Airlines offers direct flights from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Changsha, Wuhan, and Shanghai Pudong to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Nha Trang.
