The Jawa 42 gets updated for the 2024 model year launched at 1.73 lakhs

The new JAWA 42 receives a plethora of mechanical upgrades along with a few cosmetic tweaks at a very significant price point.

The Jawa Yezdi Motorcycle has launched the updated Jawa 42 for the 2024 model year in India at 1.73 lakhs ex-showroom – and it’s a proper upgrade over its predecessors, at least mechanically.

The bike is powered by the same J Panther engine, a 294 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC motor producing 27 hp and 26 Nm of torque – paired to a 5-speed gearbox. But both the engine and the transmission have been heavily revised to better suit modern riding standards.

The engine has been tuned both in software and hardware to improve the powerband across the rev range and significantly improve the low-end torque for better tractability in urban settings and the components of the gearbox have also been revised to make the shifts more responsive in the first three gears and improve overall rideability of the drivetrain, making the engine more tractable at slower speeds– issues that the owners previously reported to have experienced a very jerky or inconsistent delivery – which seemingly shall be solved by these new upgrades.

Apart from these upgrades, Jawa claims they have reworked the intake system of the 42’s engine to manage the NVH levels better and the company goes so far as to claim that the newer model is significantly more refined than the outgoing model and has a better thermal management as well due to better cooling solutions that the previous model.

Jawa 42 incorporates a double cradle frame, suspended by a telescopic fork and dual shock absorber at the rear – which stays the same as the previous model – but some tweaks have been done on the compression and rebound cycles of the suspension to improve the ride quality. The braking department is handled by 280mm front and 240mm rear disc brakes with ABS.

Visually, Jawa hasn’t poked their engineering hands around as much on the bodywork as they did with the engine and transmission side of things – a few tweaks here and there, and the seat has been revised for better comfort.

But there’s a catch

So, With all the upgrades and tweaks that Jawa has done to make the bike better than its predecessor surely, has to come at a significantly higher price than the outgoing model – But, No! quite the contrary, the Jawa 42 for the 2024 year is cheaper by 16,000 rs than its predecessor, thanks to the addition of a new base trim that has significantly reduced the starting price of the Bike and No, it is not some introductory price that you have to quick to book now or pay a higher premium once the offers expire. A note other manufacturers should take from Jawa Motorcycle ahem!…
