The all new 2025 BMW R 1300 RT: Enhanced Touring

The R 1300 RT features a completely redesigned chassis, with a steel sheet metal main frame and an aluminium rear frame

The new BMW R 1300 RT improves upon its predecessor’s strengths, maintaining its touring capability and comfortable ride for solo riders, two-ups, and those carrying luggage. BMW has also enhanced its dynamic performance, offering sporty options like a sports brake, an upgraded Shift Assistant Pro, and a new electronic chassis system (DCA) for more energetic riding. For added versatility, the Automated Shift Assistant (ASA) provides the choice between sporty manual shifting and relaxed automatic mode. BMW anticipates that these enhancements, combined with a more contemporary and lighter design, will ensure the R 1300 RT’s continued success.

BMW has carefully considered wind and weather management in the R 1300 RT’s design. It features adjustable side trim seamlessly integrated into the overall styling. This allows riders to enjoy ample fresh air in warm conditions, such as in city traffic or on country roads, while also providing effective protection from the cold when travelling at higher speeds. The new BMW R 1300 RT is available in several distinct styles. These include the standard version in Alpine White 3 uni, the “Triple Black” model in Blackstorm metallic, the more dynamic “Impulse” version in Racing Blue metallic, and the sophisticated “Option 719 Camargue” in Blue Ridge Mountain metallic. BMW Motorrad has focused not only on the design, engine, and chassis but also on enhancing the R 1300 RT’s versatility and dynamic character. To achieve this, they’ve refined the ergonomics, resulting in a more active riding position.

Specifically, the positioning of the handlebars, footrests, and seat places the rider slightly further forward on the motorcycle. This improves feedback from the front end, enhancing control during spirited riding, while still providing sufficient comfort for relaxed touring, even with a passenger. Furthermore, riders can fine-tune their position by adjusting the height and angle of the rider’s seat. Passenger comfort has also been improved, with increased legroom and a longer seat that allows for more movement during extended journeys. BMW Motorrad has prioritized accessibility, and the R 1300 RT is designed for easy mounting and dismounting. A key design goal was to achieve a low seat height of 780 mm. The seat’s shape has also been made narrower, improving ground reach. As with other BMW models, a range of optional seats is available in addition to the standard one.

The new BMW R 1300 RT is equipped as standard with 27-litre side cases suitable for touring. New for the RT model is the optional Vario case system. These cases offer adjustable volume, ranging from 27 to 33 litres, allowing riders to alter the bike’s width depending on their cargo. Both the standard and Vario cases are electrified and feature a central locking system, as well as interior lighting. The left-hand case also includes a USB-C charging port. For additional storage, there are two top-case options, with capacities of 39 and 54 litres. The larger top case is also electrified and includes an optional heated backrest for the passenger.

The new R 1300 RT is powered by an updated 1,300 cc boxer engine. This engine delivers 107 kW (145 hp) and 149 Nm of torque, making it the most powerful boxer engine ever used in a production BMW motorcycle. The R 1300 RT is equipped as standard with three riding modes: “Rain,” “Road,” and “Eco.” The “Eco” mode utilizes BMW’s ShiftCam technology to optimize fuel efficiency. Riders can also opt for “Riding Modes Pro,” which adds “Dynamic” and “Dynamic Pro” modes, and a riding mode pre-selection feature. Engine drag torque control (MSR) is also included as standard, enhancing stability during deceleration.

The R 1300 RT features a completely redesigned chassis, with a steel sheet metal main frame and an aluminium rear frame. This new design concentrates the motorcycle’s weight closer to the centre, resulting in improved handling. It also enhances braking precision and stability, makes the bike easier to ride, and provides a smoother suspension response. The front wheel is guided by BMW’s EVO Telelever system, which integrates the advantages of previous Telelever designs. The rear wheel is guided by the redesigned EVO Paralever system. The R 1300 RT also features new, lighter 17-inch cast aluminium wheels, which improve acceleration, braking, and handling.

The R 1300 RT is available with optional electronic Dynamic Chassis Adaption (DCA). While the standard electronic Dynamic ESA adjusts damping, DCA offers two distinct, rider-selectable chassis settings, and adjusts spring rate and load compensation. This new semi-active chassis provides two different riding positions. One setting prioritizes stability and smoothness, while the other enhances steering and handling ease. DCA allows riders to switch between these two chassis geometries and integrates them with the riding modes.

The R 1300 RT comes standard with a high-performance braking system and BMW Motorrad Integral ABS Pro. A sport brake system, with a sportier appearance and slightly improved braking performance, is also available as an option. The R 1300 RT is equipped as standard with full LED lighting, including a new LED headlight that provides exceptional illumination. For even more advanced lighting, the optional Headlight Pro system is available. In addition to the adaptive headlight function, it also includes pitch compensation, which maintains a level headlight beam during acceleration and deceleration.

Headlight Pro can be further enhanced with optional “Adaptive Light Modes,” which automatically adjust the direction and intensity of the low beam to optimize illumination for various riding conditions and speeds. The R 1300 RT comes standard with Dynamic Cruise Control (DCC) with a braking function. An optional Riding Assistant package is available, which includes Active Cruise Control (ACC), Front Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning (SWW), and Rear End Collision Warning (RECW).

The R 1300 RT also features a 10.25-inch TFT colour screen with integrated map navigation and a new Connectivity Hub for controlling various accessories. A convenient, actively ventilated smartphone charging compartment with a USB-C port is also included. For those seeking an enhanced audio experience, optional Audio System and Audio Pro packages are available. Audio Pro upgrades the sound system with higher-quality speakers and sound profiles.
