Porsche unveiled the brand-new Cayenne Electric online before giving Dubai the honour of hosting its first public appearance at Icons of Porsche. A select group of media got an early preview on 21 November, but the real spectacle unfolds on the 22nd, where the electric heavyweight joins thousands of fans, classics, concepts, and insane motorsport icons.
This is the SUV that marks Porsche’s next big chapter. The first Cayenne dragged Porsche into the SUV world back in 2002. Now, the Cayenne Electric drags the brand full-force into its next era. An era where silence is faster than sound, kilowatts replace cubic centimetres, and a family SUV accelerates harder than some current Ferrari V12s.
Numbers That Make Hypercars Nervous
Let’s start with the headline: 1,155hp. That makes this the most powerful production Porsche ever. Period. Yes, more powerful than the Carrera GT and the 918. It has more power than the 991 generation 911 Turbo & GT3 RS combined! And wait till you hear the torque output.
0–100 km/h? 2.5 seconds. Top speed? 260 km/h. Torque? Up to 1,500 Nm when Launch Control kicks in. It’s basically a Formula E car that can tow 3.5 tonnes and carry a week’s worth of IKEA regrets.
The Cayenne Turbo Electric even borrows direct oil cooling for the rear electric motor — a motorsport-style solution to keep the thing delivering stupid power on repeat without melting itself. And because Porsche loves overachieving, the car recovers up to 600kW under braking, which is wild. Formula E-level regen in a five-seat SUV? Sure, why not.
Charging, Range & Real-World Use: The Practical Super SUV
In addition to chasing mad numbers, Porsche wants the Cayenne Electric to actually work as a real SUV. You get up to 642km of WLTP range, thanks to a 113kWh battery with double-sided cooling.
Charging? Brutal. With its 800-volt system, it can hit 390kW with the right charger, and under ideal conditions, even 400kW. That means 10% to 80% in under 16 minutes, or more than 300km of range added in 10 minutes. Coffee break, done.
It also comes with an Off-Road package, active aerodynamics, and tech borrowed from Porsche’s sports sedans like Porsche Active Ride, rear-axle steering, and Torque Vectoring Plus.
Design: Very Cayenne, Very Porsche, Very Future
Porsche just took the current model, then said, “Let’s sharpen everything.” It’s got slim LED headlights, contoured wings, frameless doors, an animated rear light bar, Turbonite accents on the ‘Turbo,’ and aero tricks everywhere, including active aero-blades at the rear that extend like something out of a Transformers movie.
It’s sleeker too, with a drag coefficient of 0.25, which is absurd for a large SUV and a big reason it travels this far and this fast.
Inside: Tech, Toys & More Screens
Porsche calls it the largest display area ever fitted to a Porsche, featuring a curved OLED Flow Display, a 14.25-inch digital cluster, and an optional 14.9-inch passenger screen. In addition, there’s an augmented reality 84-inch display. Know more about the EV’s incredible interior here.
Mood Modes adjust seating, lighting, climate, and even the soundscape. There’s an LCD-controlled panoramic roof, panel heating, and an extended customisation menu that basically lets buyers build their own spec like it’s Gran Turismo. The Wheelbase is longer too, giving passengers more space. To top it all off, there’s still a frunk. Because EV.
The Big Picture: Petrol Vs EV?
Porsche isn’t abandoning petrol. In fact, the brand will keep combustion and hybrid Cayennes running well into the next decade. But the Cayenne Electric is the next milestone in Porsche’s transformation. Dubai gets the world’s first public look at it. Icons of Porsche gets another legendary unveiling moment. And it seems like the electric SUV segment just got a new king.
