TAG Heuer’s stunning new Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963
Inspired by the Porsche 963, the Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 celebrates endurance racing and technological innovation.
TAG Heuer has just launched the Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963, a skeleton dial chronograph timepiece. It is inspired by the Porsche 963, an LMDh (Le Mans Daytona Hybrid) sports prototype racing car, and features Porsche design elements in its dial, case, and bracelet. The colours of Porsche motorsport – white, red and black – have been chosen for the Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963.
The Porsche 963 represents the peak of Porsche’s engineering know-how. It is designed by Porsche and built by Multimatic, a Canadian automotive company that supplies components, systems, and engineering services worldwide. It is based on Multimatic’s chassis developed for the LMP2 category, “a second edition Le Mans Prototype developed and designed to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.” Its state-of-the-art combustion engine, a twin-turbo V8, which can operate on renewable fuels, has its roots in the iconic Porsche 918 Spyder road car.

Functions and Dial
The Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963’s functions are as follows:
– Hours and Minutes.
– Seconds.
– Chronograph functions (1/4 second, 30-minutes counter and 12-hours counter).
– Date.
The Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 features a “tubular” design skeleton dial, “reminiscent of Porsche racing cars chassis tubular shapes”. The dial features a NAC finish.
– Its central hours and minutes hands are rhodium plated, facetted, and coated with white Super-LumiNova®. Blue light at night.
– Its central chronograph hand is coated in red lacquer.
– Subdial at 3 o’clock: Black shimmery 30-minute chronograph featuring 4 white Super-LumiNova® block markers (blue light at night) and encircled with a black ring. The hand is coated in red lacquer.
– Subdial at 9 o’clock: Black shimmery 12-hour chronograph featuring 4 white Super-LumiNova® block markers (blue light at night) and encircled with a black ring. The hand is coated in red lacquer.
– Subdial at 6 o’clock: Black open-worked shimmery permanent 60-seconds indicator. The hand is rhodium plated.
– Date window featuring white Super-LumiNova® (blue light at night) at 6 o’clock subdial. The open-worked date disc is black.
– A black circular flange with 60 second / minute scale featuring white, grey and red markings.
– 12 block hour-markers, coated in white Super-LumiNova® (blue light at night), except 4 o’clock, which is red “evoking the iconic Le Mans race’s start time.”
– The applied “TAG HEUER” logo at 12 o’clock is rhodium plated and polished.
– “CARRERA” at 12 o’clock and “SWISS” at 6 o’clock are printed.
Movement
The Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963 is powered by in-house mechanical automatic bi-directional calibre Heuer 02 (ref. TH20-00).
– The winding rotor’s design resembles “Porsche’s iconic steering wheel.”
– It has 33 jewels.
– It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph or 4 Hz.
– It has a power reserve of 80 hours.
– It is visible via a sapphire caseback.
Case and Bracelet
The Carrera Chronograph x Porsche 963’s case and bracelet have the following features:
– Its case diameter is 44 mm, case thickness is 15.1 mm and lug distance are 22.1 mm.
– Its case is made of steel, fine brushed and polished. Both the hollowed sides feature fine grained black PVD.
– “PORSCHE” logo in 3D is on the left side of the case.
– Crown at 3 o’clock and chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o’clock are on the right side of the case. They are made of black DLC steel, fine brushed and polished. The crown features a sandblasted steel ring.
– The tachymeter fixed bezel is made of black forged carbon. The printed “PORSCHE” logo near 12 o’clock and 1 o’clock is coated with white Super-LumiNova® (blue light at night). The markings on the bezel are grey.
– On its dial side, it features a beveled and domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.
– On its caseback side, it features a circular steel screwed sapphire caseback, brushed and polished. It features a special engraving: “LIMITED EDITION” and “XXX/963”. Each piece is individually numbered.
– It has a water resistance of 100 metres.
– It comes with a black rubber strap, integrated into the case. “963” is engraved on a central steel link, fine brushed and polished. The shape of the rubber strap “is inspired by the NACA-style low-drag air inlets”, featured in Porsche race cars.
– It features a steel folding clasp, fine brushed and polished, with double safety push-buttons and the TAG Heuer shield.
