Here’s some good news for those who fly First or Business Class with a Star Alliance airline. The world’s largest airline alliance has joined its member airlines and the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to create a Star Alliance-branded lounge at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (GBIA). Open round the clock, it’s the first in Asia for Star Alliance. In addition to those travelling First or Business Class, the lounge is also available to Star Alliance Gold status members.
The lounge is on the upper level of the existing GBIA lounge in Terminal 1 (international section). Spread over 750 sq. m., the lounge can accommodate up to 100 travellers. Those visiting will get unrestricted views of the tarmac, while the glass façade also lets in natural light. Those who plan to get some work done at the lounge have workstations. Others have comfortable seating options for relaxation and, perhaps, getting some shut-eye. Upon request, travellers can access a 100 sq.m. VIP private area for group or business meetings. The lounge also houses shower suites for those who want to freshen up before boarding their flight.
Art pieces by local artists, a Tea Appreciation Corner (comes alive on special occasions for guests to experience the local tea culture), a range of food options, including light bits and regional delicacies and a dedicated bar counter are among the other highlights of the Star Alliance lounge at GBIA.
Ten Star Alliance member airlines currently operate flights from Guangzhou. The list includes Air China, ANA, Asiana Airlines, EgyptAir, Ethiopian Airlines, EVA Air, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, and Turkish Airlines. Together, they offer 774 weekly departures to 50 destinations across ten countries.
