The all-new MG3 hatchback was unveiled to the public by the folks at Inter Emirates Motors (IEM), the exclusive distributor of MG Motor in the UAE, beside the beautiful banks of the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. The 3rd generation MG3 supermini will add to MG’s diverse range of vehicles which include sedans and SUVs like the GT, RX5, RX8, and more.
Design: Snazzy aesthetics inside and out
The new MG3 is a fresh take on the sub-compact hatchback segment. With sharp features like the “leopard-inspired hunting-eye headlamps”, light-trailed taillamps, gaping front grille and sculpted bodywork, the MG3 adorns styling traits that are atypical to the commuter class. While the cockpit is characterised by an intriguing theme, with a flat-bottom “racing” steering wheel, diamond pattern seats and quality plastics. The internal space has also been optimised with 25 storage compartments and a generous boot.
Technology: Dual screens and smartphone integration
Despite its affordability, the MG3 interior is either equipped or available with technological and connectivity features that keep it abreast with the most modern vehicles, such as a 7-inch virtual instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more.
Variants: From the functional STD trim to the well-equipped LUX model
The MG3 comes in 3 distinct flavours, the STD, COM and LUX. The base STD model is equipped with features such as electric door mirrors, rear parking sensors, hill assist and a multi-function steering wheel. The COM variant adds 16-inch alloys, 2nd row AC vents, an electric parking brake and a sunroof to that list. While the top dog LUX trim gets features like parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, a leather steering wheel, keyless entry, a lane departure alert and PVC seats. Depending on the model advanced driver-assistance systems like Front Collision Warning, Emergency Lane Keep System, Blind Spot Detection and Adaptive Cruise Control are also available.
Powertrain: 1.5L engine mated to a CVT
Motivating the new MG3 is a 1.5-litre petrol engine which is mated to an “8-gear” i-CVT transmission. It is capable of churning out a peak output of 109 hp and 142 Nm, which is expected to deliver decent levels of performance and fuel economy, especially for a car of its size and for its segment.
Pricing & warranty: Sub-50k starting price and a 6-year warranty
The MG3 is now available across all Inter Emirates Motors’ all six showrooms in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Sharjah, Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah with prices starting from AED 41,429 (excluding VAT) which includes a useful 6-year/200,000 km manufacturer warranty.
