The festival offers a chance to explore cutting-edge imaging technology, refine existing skills, and broaden creative horizons.

Sony Middle East and Africa has announced the Sony Alpha Festival 2025, a dedicated event for photographers, videographers, and content creators based in the UAE. Scheduled for January 18, 2025, at Garage Studio in Dubai’s Al Quoz Logistic Park, and continuing on January 25, 2025, in Abu Dhabi, the festival aims to provide an inspiring and hands-on experience for creative professionals seeking to explore the latest advancements in digital imaging.

The festival’s theme, “Movie Scenes Reimagined Through Your Lens,” invites participants to delve into the art of cinematic storytelling. Drawing inspiration from Hollywood cinema, encompassing everything from high-octane action sequences to emotionally resonant narrative scenes, the event is designed to empower creators to discover new approaches to capturing impactful visuals through meticulously crafted shooting concepts.

Attendees will have the opportunity to work with Sony’s latest Alpha cameras, including the Alpha 1 II, Alpha 9 III, Alpha 7R V, and the versatile Alpha 7 IV. These cameras represent the pinnacle of Sony’s imaging technology and are specifically designed to enhance cinematic storytelling. The Alpha 1 II boasts advanced AI-based subject recognition capabilities optimized for both still photography and filmmaking. The Alpha 9 III showcases a groundbreaking full-frame image sensor with a global shutter system, delivering exceptional image quality, richer colour gradation, and highly realistic colour reproduction.

To complement the hands-on camera experience, the festival will feature workshops and masterclasses led by Sony Ambassadors and seasoned industry professionals. These sessions will focus on advanced techniques in lighting, composition, and visual storytelling, aligning with the event’s cinematic theme. This educational component aims to provide attendees with practical skills and knowledge to immediately apply to their creative work.

Three prominent Sony Ambassadors will be leading these educational sessions:

  • Hind AlRaeesi: A renowned portrait and lifestyle photographer, AlRaeesi will share her expertise in capturing authentic emotions and telling compelling stories through still photography.
  • Ian Nieuwenhuizen: An award-winning videographer, Nieuwenhuizen will focus on dynamic cinematography techniques, with a particular emphasis on capturing action and movement.
  • Timothy Fare-Matthews: A cinematic director and visual artist, Fare-Matthews will delve into advanced cinematic concepts, exploring visual narratives and demonstrating how to use Sony’s tools to create movie-like scenes.

Jobin Joejoe, Managing Director of Sony Middle East and Africa, emphasized the festival’s role as a platform for learning and engagement within the creative community. He stated that this year’s focus on cinematic storytelling reflects Sony’s commitment to providing creators with the necessary tools, techniques, and inspiration to advance their craft. He also highlighted the event’s contribution to nurturing the growing creative industry in the UAE.
