Siemens And Audi To Help UAE Achieve 2050 Goal

The German brands will help strengthen the electric vehicle charging infrastructure in the middle-eastern country.

Almost every country has an aim of reducing its contributions toward harmful emissions. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is no exception. Its Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) has now signed an agreement with Siemens and Audi to boost electric vehicle (EV) charging capacity on federal roads. Also, the German brands will help promote EV adoption across the Emirates.

It was in June 2022 when MoEI selected Siemens to install fast chargers nationwide. The discussions with Audi, however, are expected to expand on this initiative. The UAE’s strengthening of the EV charging network aligns with the Ingolstadt-based carmaker’s investment plans.

Here’s what Sharif Salim Al Olama, Undersecretary at the MoEI, said in an official release:

The UAE is committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and is on track to being the leader in the Middle East and North Africa in reaching this target. Electric vehicles are integral to this effort, and providing fast, efficient and convenient EV charging infrastructure with partners like Siemens and Audi is a crucial step in the energy transition.

Audi, like many other carmakers, is on an aggressive EV push. By 2026, it’ll have more than 20 all-electric models on its global portfolio. And since the brand has a strong presence in the UAE, it would want a supporting infrastructure established before introducing more battery-electric vehicles.

On the other hand, Siemens is a proven player in providing technology solutions. It has already deployed ten Sicharge D 160kW chargers on the highways in Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah. All installed units can be remotely monitored, courtesy of the could-based tech.

Expect more such collaborations in times to come. The governing authorities will need all the help they can get to help reduce their carbon footprint in any form.
