Royal Enfield Unveils The Flying Flea – An Electric sub-brand

An electric Royal Enfield!

An electric offering from the brand has been much anticipated for a few months- Finally, after months of speculation, Royal Enfield has taken the wraps off their latest electric sub-brand and its first-ever concept under the Flying Flea moniker – and christened it the FF – C6.

The Unveiling of the C6 is a historic landmark in Royal Enfield’s history – as the C6 will be the brand’s first-ever electric motorcycle – after churning out motorcycles renowned for their acoustic factor. A relatively tranquil electric motorcycle will be uncharted territory for the brand.

The Company has positioned the motorcycle in an urban cruiser category – and the company does not really encourage taking it out of the city bounds, perhaps this reflects on the not-so-impressive range from the battery or performance of the motors to keep pace on the highways – I couldn’t really comment on that, as the performance and range figures are still under the wraps.

The development of the bike has been done solely by an in-house R&D team and it is to be noted that in the past few months, Royal Enfield has patented more than 25 patents under the Flying Flea moniker, for all the innovations that are to be seen on the bikes wearing the flying flea badge. Royal Enfield has developed a ‘Vehicle Control Unit’, which acts as the central control unit for all the physical and digital, powered by a tailor-made chip designed for the Flying Flea brand. The VCU is programmed to enable over 200,000 different performance combinations which can stay updated via OTA updates.

The Moniker Flying Flea first came into existence during World War 2, when the Allied forces used to airdrop the motorcycle on the battlefield and soldiers were able to assemble the bike in a matter of few seconds and get on with their mission on hand.

And if you look closely the C6 concept showcased is quite reminiscent of the original Flying Flea from the 1940s, Motorcyling world is quite aware of Royal Enfield’s ability to reincarnate classic models in the modern era – while keeping their best bits on, namely the design. Staying true to their brand – Royal Enfield “Flying Flea” C6 – incorporates subtle visual design elements – such as girder front forks, single pod gauge cluster and round headlight to name a few.

Royal Enfield showcased two different models of the FF C6 – a single-seat version and a double-seat version – both models get a first for Royal Enfield cornering ABS and a domestic 3-pin plug.

The launch is expected in 2026 more than a year from now – and the expected price could be anywhere around INR 4,00,000/- to INR 5,00,000/-, if true, then Flying Flea would be in a very premium company.
