Rolex turns up the Heat with the New Daytona

Rolex just released the new Daytona that commemorates the 100 years of the 24-hour Le Mans Racing. Le Mans has some iconic moments and stories with Rolex being a part of it through Paul Newman. Check out this new release here….Read on, folks!

Vrooooommmm!….the roaring sound of Le Mans in the forefront and background, but, something that caught attention was the new object in a glass case…yes, there it was – The new Rolex Daytona (and a special one) with reference number 126529LN commemorating the 100th year of the 24-hour Le Mans.

This year has been one of reckoning for Rolex with a spew of releases and this surprise package coming out of the blue. This piece is beautiful from the word ‘go’, and comes in the reverse-panda dial (it does remind me of the 1973 Daytona Cosmograph). The watch is made of 18K white gold that comes with the bright black dial and white sub-dials. There are two highlights for this watch, with first one being the Cerachrom bezel (consists of high-tech ceramic) which houses the tachymetric scale and the number 100 highlighted in red ceramic to signify 100 years of Le Mans. This is a single-piece bezel that holds the crystal in place, is corrosion resistant and almost scratch-proof. The watch is powered by a new version of the recently launched 4131 Rolex movement – 4132 which provides a chronograph measure of up to 24 hours which makes it Le Mans-usable. Of course, the watch comes in the oyster bracelet and interestingly, they have included a transparent caseback (Guess Rolex is taking a like to transparent casebacks or have they decided to listen to watch enthusiasts?).

This timepiece is an all-round hit and Rolex has done it right with this release. The watch looks stunning, is graceful and has a connection to the past as well as present by commemorating the Le Mans.

This comes at a price of $51,400 and am sure that the authorized dealers have already started getting calls on this one. The piece will drive the watch enthusiast market wild and in turn fire up the grey market as well. Would you try and get your hands (if you can!) on this one or are you content with the other Daytona releases that came in March?
