Ressence, the independent watch brand from Antwerp, Belgium, has launched the Type 7. It celebrates the brand’s 15th anniversary. It is the first Ressence with a GMT function and an integrated bracelet. There are two versions: Night Blue and XV Aquamarine, the latter a limited edition of 80 pieces.
Key Features
Image: XV Aquamarine. (Same as header image.) Notice the GMT function on the right.
The functions are hours, minutes, GMT, runner – 120”, and oil temperature by colour.
The watch has a convex grade 5 titanium dial (diameter: 75 mm) and features three eccentric biaxial satellites which are inclined to 9.75° (hours and temperature) and 18° (runner and GMT). Indications are engraved and the dial is filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova.
Image: The closed caseback conceals a sophisticated “movement.”
Powered by the patented ROCS 7 module that is driven by the minute axel of a customised calibre. Winding and time setting is operated via the caseback, with the Ressence Compression Lock System (RCLS). It features Magnetic Transmission, (air to oil), and a Compensating Bellow System, “a self-equilibrating pressure-balance system” which compensates for the expansion and contraction of the oil. Self-winding rotor. Jewels: 37. Gears: 37. Jewel ball bearings: 8. Frequency: 28,800 vph or 4 Hz. Power reserve: 36 hours. Our last year’s feature on the Ressence Type 5 L explains the movement is greater detail.
Image: XV Aquamarine features a fixed aluminium bezel. Looks futuristic from this angle.
The case is made from grade 5 titanium. Diameter: 41 mm. Thickness: 14 mm. Night Blue version features a fixed ceramic bezel, and XV Aquamarine features a fixed aluminium bezel. It features two separate sealed chambers. Upper chamber is filled with 2.95 ml of oil. Double domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating inside. Water resistant up to 5 ATM.
Image: Night Blue features a fixed ceramic bezel. The titanium bracelet and deployant clasp appears well constructed.
Watch comes with an integrated bracelet and deployant clasp (5 adjustable positions) made from grade 5 titanium. An optional leather or rubber strap is provided.
Total components: 391. Weight: 123 grams.
Our Thoughts
Image: Night Blue is my personal favourite.
Ressence is a highly impressive and interesting independent watch brand. They have combined aspects of engineering and physics to create their unique time display. The new Type 7 carries the brand’s DNA forward 15 years on, this time with a GMT function and an integrated bracelet. The Type 7 (and any other Ressence) will appeal to those collectors who appreciate the science on display (both visible and concealed) in the watch. Based on images, both versions look cool, my personal favourite being Night Blue.
