What is the Range Rover Sport Electric?
The Range Rover Sport Electric represents the first-ever all-electric Range Rover Sport. With a twin-motor powertrain, it keeps the existing emphasis on on-road performance and all-terrain capability while going fully electric.
Powered by twin 260 kW electric motors, the Range Rover Sport produces up to 550 BHP and 850 Nm of torque. According to Range Rover, it can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds when the Dynamic Launch Mode feature is activated.
Built on JLR’s MLA-Flex platform, it is produced at the manufacturer’s Solihull facility in the United Kingdom, along with its plug-in hybrid, gasoline, and diesel counterparts.
What makes the Range Rover Sport Electric dynamic?
This car has a chassis that is 61 percent stiffer than that of the Range Rover Sport plug-in hybrid and a centre of gravity that is 73mm lower. All this has been added, along with chassis systems designed to control movement.
The car’s suspension system comprises Dynamic Air Suspension, Electronic Active Roll Control, Twin Valve Dampers, and Adaptive Dynamics. The latter system uses 100 parameters 500 times per second to monitor the vehicle’s behaviour while driving.
Other features include All-Wheel Steering and the Electronic Active Roll Control system, which can apply up to 1,400 Nm of force per axle. Range Rover says it has a faster torque response than the Range Rover Electric, coming in 50 percent faster.
The car also has a specially designed sound system that produces electronic tones for different driving modes.
What are the off-roading abilities of the Range Rover Sport Electric?
The Range Rover Sport Electric has maintained the Range Rover’s off-road tradition. Its traction management system uses virtual all-wheel drive and individually managed electric motors to provide traction in different conditions.
According to Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport Electric can go through water up to 900mm deep and climb inclines up to 45 degrees. During development, Range Rover’s engineers drove it on a variety of surfaces, including marble surfaces, marble dust, and even the steep parts of the quarry in Carrara, Italy.
During development, the Range Rover Sport Electric also underwent testing at the Magarigawa Club track in Japan as part of its worldwide development process. The All-Wheel Steering system helped manage tight corners during its Carrara test track programme.
What battery does it have and what is the range?
Its supposed maximum WLTP range is 609 km, while its actual range is estimated at up to 533 km.
With a compatible fast DC charger, you can add 220 km of range in just 10 minutes. A 10-80 percent charge takes about 22 minutes when charging under specified conditions.
The ThermAssist thermal management system controls the car’s thermodynamics and improves electric powertrain efficiency. The Range Rover app includes charging capabilities, where you can find charger locations and schedule charging.
What are the features and equipment included?
There are four Range Rover Sport Electric configurations: Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography, and First Edition.
Distinctive exterior elements include an aerodynamic grille and new alloy wheels. Thanks to them, Range Rover claims it can add an additional 16 km of driving range at motorway speeds.
An optional Black Pack and Satin Wrap are available. For the First Edition, the specifications require Zadar Grey paint, Satin Wrap, a contrasting black roof, and 22-inch alloy wheels.
Customers opting for the Autobiography trim level can choose from Range Rover Bespoke, where they can select more exterior colours, materials, configurations, and personalisation such as embroidery.
When is the Range Rover Sport Electric coming out?
Orders are already available for the Range Rover Sport Electric, which is an addition to the existing Range Rover Sport line with plug-in hybrids, petrol, and diesel engines. The car will be manufactured in Solihull, UK.
As Range Rover has not stated any global price yet, prices may vary by market and specifications. The car’s battery warranty is eight years or 161,000 kilometres. Every vehicle also features Battery Digital Twin, which supports monitoring and maintenance through JLR’s over-the-air software capability.
