Porsche Middle East Hosts ‘Camp Cayenne’

The event allowed guests to experience all generations of the SUV.

For carmakers, model anniversaries are special. And when they involve a landmark product, the celebrations breach boundaries to include people from across the globe. A fitting example would be the Cayenne, a Porsche that turned 20 this year. The SUV has been such a hit for the Germans that its lifetime production count surpassed the 1-million-mark in 2020. In the following year, Porsche delivered over 80,000 units of Cayenne worldwide.

As part of Cayenne’s 20th-anniversary celebrations, Porsche Middle East hosted an event called ‘Camp Cayenne’ in the mountainous Hatta. The location allowed guests to experience all generations of the SUV in challenging environments with professional instructors.

Here’s what Manfred Bräunl, who is the CEO at Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE, said in an official statement:

The birth of the Cayenne allowed Porsche to grow beyond its range of two-seater sports cars without compromising our sporting or motorsport values. Since 2002, it has been a keystone to Porsche’s global success and is one of the best-selling sports luxury SUVs in the Middle East.

It was on September 25, 2002, when Porsche unveiled the first-gen Cayenne at the Paris Motor Show. Porsche had expected to sell around 25,000 units per year, but the SUV managed to rack up an average of nearly 35,000 units annually by the end of its eight-year reign. Over its 20-year stint, the Cayenne has not only managed to increase business for the Stuttgart-based brand but also bagged a lap record at the fearsome Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Currently in its third generation, the model offers a wide array of features, including rear-axle steering, a plug-in hybrid powertrain and three-chamber air suspension.

Porsche confirms that celebrations will continue at the Icons of Porsche event, which will run between November 26-27, 2022, at Dubai Design District. There too people will get to experience the SUV in all its generations pre-defined on and off-road tracks.
