New 1.5 TSI Variants Launched For Slavia And Kushaq

The four-cylinder turbocharged engine was earlier reserved for the top-tier derivatives of both cars.

Finally, a development that Skoda fans, especially keen drivers, will relish. The gutsier 1.5-litre TSI motor has just become more affordable. And that’s for both the Slavia sedan and the Kushaq SUV. How? Well, they’ve got new variants! Skoda has introduced the engine option mentioned above in the Ambition trim level. Here, check out the prices:

Skoda Slavia

• 1.5 Ambition MT – INR 14.94 lakh

• 1.5 Ambition DSG – INR 16.24 lakh

• 1.5 Ambition DSG Dual-Tone – INR 16.29 lakh

Skoda Kushaq

• 1.5 Ambition MT – INR 14.99 lakh

• 1.5 Ambition DSG – INR 16.79 lakh

• 1.5 Ambition DSG Dual-Tone – INR 16.84 lakh

Quick math reveals that in Kushaq’s case, the 1.5 TSI variants cost INR 1.8 lakh more than their corresponding 1.0 TSI derivatives. Similarly, the gap is INR 1.95 lakh in Slavia’s portfolio. Another tasty development is the option of a dual-tone finish option. Both cars have two dual-tone finishes available. For Slavia, Skoda has Crystal Blue shade with Black roof and Carbon Steel with Silver roof. The Kushaq, on the other hand, comes with Honey Orange colour for the body with Black top and Carbon Steel with Silver roof.

The 1.5-litre motor is turbocharged and has four cylinders in its configuration. Skoda claims an output of 150hp/250Nm, 35ps/72Nm more than the 1.0 TSI motor offers. The larger engine comes with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG. Moreover, the powerplant complies with the stricter BS6 2.0 emission norms and supports E20 fuels. As per Skoda, the changes have resulted in a 7 per cent increase in fuel efficiency. And let’s not forget the Active Cylinder Technology, which helps switch off two of the four cylinders on lighter loads to boost mileage.

Features? The 1.5-litre Ambition variants carry the same equipment as their 1.0-litre counterparts. Regarding rivals, the Skoda Slavia locks horns with the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and Volkswagen Virtus. For Kushaq, the competition includes Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Volkswagen Taigun.
