MING has introduced the 37.02 Monolith, the latest model in the 37.02 collection. It is a “stealthy, DLC-coated, mixed matte and brushed finished edition of the Minimalist with a restricted annual production to balance accessibility and exclusivity.”
Launched in 2024, the Minimalist 37.02 was the first watch in the brand’s permanent collection. The 37.02 Ghost we covered in April is part of the same collection, though a limited edition of 250 pieces.
Key Features
Functions
Image: “The dial is dynamic in the way that only sapphire can be – it inverts, glows, reflects seemingly floating markers, or sucks light like a black hole depending on the angle. It is legible, balanced, and has visual tension without being symmetric. All dial markings are laser cut channels into the sapphire dial and then liquid filled with MING Polar White. We left the hands traditional Super-LumiNova X1 Blue for relative contrast.”
Central hours and minutes.
Dial

Sapphire dial.
Hour-markers are filled with the proprietary MING Polar White luminous material, “prepared personally by MT (Ming Thein) in Kuala Lumpur using an internally developed process and formula.”
Hour and minute hands are coated with Super-LumiNova X1 Blue.
Case and Strap
Image: Perfect not only for the summer, but also for the monsoons and winter where the FKM Mango-coloured rubber strap promises to brighten one’s day.
Case is made from 316L stainless steel. It features a “brushed-matte blasted finish and anthracite DLC coating.”
Diameter: 38 mm. Thickness: 11 mm. Lug-to-lug distance: 44.50 mm. Lug width: 20 mm.
Dial side and caseback feature a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water resistant up to 100 metres.
The watch comes with a MING FKM Mango-coloured rubber strap fitted to a tuck buckle coated in anthracite DLC and featuring an in-built micro adjustment.
Movement
Image: The Sellita is a dependable automatic movement, easily serviceable by qualified watchmakers worldwide.
Powered by Sellita for MING SW300.M1, an automatic movement that drives the hours and minutes. According to online sources, it beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph or 4 Hz and incorporates a hacking or stop seconds function.
It features anthracite skeletonised bridges and a custom winding rotor. Power reserve: 45 hours (approximately).
Our Thoughts
Image: For a young brand, MING has achieved immense visual power and a cult following.
Recently while scrolling Instagram, I came across a post (of a pre-owned luxury watch page) showing a video of A. Lange & Söhne’s 1815 Annual Calendar, where the caption mentioned the immense visual power of the brand’s watches. I feel the exact same way about MING.
Founded in 2017, MING is a young brand. They are not bound by design codes from several decades or a few hundred years ago. Their dials and cases present the perfect canvas for Ming Thein and his team to experiment with horology the way they desire to. Which they have, and gained a cult following in the process. Whether the 37.09 Uni or the more complex and expensive 21.01 ‘Project 21’ and 20.01 Series 5, MING’s creations have a visual power right up there with a select few. In my opinion, F.P. Journe and Rolex also possess immense visual power.
Image: The lume view is super cool. The Polar White “name comes from the fact that it emits in all wavelengths and is therefore one of the very few (if not the only) luminous materials to truly glow white.”
The 37.02 Monolith follows in the same footsteps. Its every bit a MING, yet one with a unique personality. A stealthy and super cool dial (especially in the dark) and a burst of colour from its FKM Mango-coloured rubber strap. A worthy addition to the brand’s lineup of meticulously crafted watches.
