Mille Miglia rally comes to the UAE
The world’s most beautiful race announces dates for the UAE rally.
On February 18th-20th, I attended an epic event. I participated in the Mille Miglia Prologue event in Dubai. A taster event of the actual rally will occur towards the end of 2022. I was the navigator to Wilfred, a hardcore enthusiast of the actual Mille Miglia. He practices rallying in his 300SL every weekend. That is how hardcore he is. We managed to come in the second even though I managed to get him lost because I was busy being a “chatterbox”.
But this was only the Prologue event. The Mille Miglia is known as the most beautiful race on earth, and it is for the very first time that the race will be held outside Italy. It will be held in the UAE and is organized by Octanium Experiences LLC. The Prologue event does not count as the actual race. Consider it more of a practice run.
We who live in the desert at times lose the ability to appreciate it. Wilfred, a Mille Miglia veteran who has been on the Italian race multiple times, was able to see the UAE in a whole different light. He was able to appreciate the beauty of the city and wilderness. I could reappreciate the country that I now call home through his eyes.
I am excited to witness the actual race that will now take place in the UAE between December 4th-8th. One hundred teams will participate, with fifty of them being international teams.
On 5th December 2022, these hundred teams will depart from Dubai and cover all seven Emirates as part of the race. The route comprises a 1600 km road course with multiple terrain features and road conditions. From mountains to oceans and sand, this rally will have the participants tackling all of them in classic cars. I was genuinely excited to participate in the Prologue event, and I am looking forward to the actual race this year.
