McLaren’s 6,223km Coast-to-Coast Drive — A Tribute To Its 1995 Le Mans Victory

A supercar road trip to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the legendary victory at Le Mans! Can it get cooler than this?

In 1995, McLaren shocked the motorsport world when the F1 GTR won the 24 Hours of Le Mans on its very first attempt. That victory became a symbol of endurance, determination, and engineering without compromise. Thirty years later, McLaren has chosen to honour that moment not on the track, but on the open road. The States of Endurance road trip spanned 6,223 km across eight US states, bringing the culture of McLaren and the mindset of endurance to fans across America.

Three Supercars Drive From Monterey To Miami

Undertaking the journey were three of McLaren’s most advanced machines: the 750S Coupe, the 750S Spider, and the Artura Spider.

  • The 750S, powered by a twin-turbo V8 with 740 hp and 800 Nm of torque, is the lightest and most powerful series-production McLaren to date.

  • The Artura Spider takes hybrid performance to the next level, combining a twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor for 671 hp and instant torque.

Driven by McLaren pros Paul Rees, Jack Barlow, and Oliver Webb, these supercars proved that McLaren’s endurance isn’t limited to just the racetrack.

A Visual Tribute To 24 Hours Of Le Mans

Each car wore a unique livery symbolising the phases of a 24-hour race: Dawn, Day, and Night. It was a clever visual nod to endurance racing, turning the convoy into a rolling narrative. Just like at Le Mans, each stage represented persistence through time, but here, it played out across the vast highways of America.

The Route: Pit Stops Along the Journey

The journey began in Monterey, California, during the prestigious Car Week, where McLaren unveiled Project: Endurance to North America. Alongside it, the 750S Le Mans edition was displayed, commemorating the 1995 triumph.

From there, the convoy crossed the country with stops in Newport Beach, Scottsdale, Dallas, Atlanta, Orlando, and finally Miami. These fan-focused events, dubbed “Pit Stops,” were organised with McLaren retailers and brought together enthusiasts, owners, and convoys who joined parts of the trip. It wasn’t just about the cars; it was about celebrating the community that keeps the McLaren spirit alive.

Along the route, the McLaren drivers met people whose lives embodied endurance in different ways — ranchers, astronauts, world-record athletes. Each story echoed the same theme: endurance is not just physical, it’s a mindset. One of the most meaningful encounters was with Justin Bell, who drove a McLaren F1 GTR in the 1995 Le Mans race.

Henrik Wilhelmsmeyer, McLaren’s Chief Commercial Officer, said, “Endurance racing represents McLaren’s tenacity, and the States of Endurance journey is a perfect intersection of our endurance heritage with the cutting-edge engineering, technologies, and uncompromising standards that make our supercars capable of experiences that still resonate long after the journey ends.
