McLaren Unveils The 626hp GTS

It joins the brand’s portfolio as the replacement for the GT.

The McLaren GT has been with us for a few years now. Time, then, for some updates. Enter the McLaren GTS. It replaces the GT in the brand’s portfolio while upping the game in several aspects. It still boasts about being the most practical GT car in its class.

The McLaren GTS has a few visual differences over the GT. For instance, there’s a new lower bumper at the front, incorporating wider air intakes. On the rear fenders are new and bigger air scoops, which suck in more air for the powerplant. Both enhancements are optionally available in gloss visual carbon fibre to make a more aggressive statement. At the back is a more prominent diffuser and dual exhausts. Some elements can be optioned with carbon fibre, including the front air intake blades, the rear fender air intakes and mirror caps. And to save some weight, the standard composite roof is made from recycled carbon fibre.

Inside the cabin, most of the controls and knobs are finished in knurled aluminium. Accompanying them are gloss black surrounds on the 7.0-inch infotainment system, gear selector, air vents and window switches. One could opt for the carbon fibre pack to uplift the aura. As standard, the Comfort seats and the steering wheel come draped with Nappa leather. However, selecting Performance or TechLux interior themes liven things up with a mixture of Alcantara, leather, powered and heated seats with memory function and colour options.

On the features front, the McLaren GTS comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, ambient lighting, an on-board navigation system, 20-inch alloys at the front and 21-inch at the rear wrapped with Pirelli P Zero rubber, multiple drive modes and an optional panoramic glass roof with an electrochromic glazed panel.

Behind the seats of the McLaren GTS is a revised twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 that outputs 626hp/630Nm. While the torque remains the same, the power has increased by 14hp. Harnessing the oomph and feeding it to the rear wheels is handled by a 7-speed automatic transmission. As per the carmaker, the GTS can hit 100kmph from nothing in 3.2 seconds, reach 200kmph in 8.9 seconds (a tenth of a second quicker) and top out at 326kmph.

The mid-engined car comes with adaptive dampers with proactive damping control, ceramic brakes and a 110mm ground clearance that can be raised to 130mm using the vehicle lift function, which now takes only four seconds to raise or drop the car.

Yes, the McLaren GTS also comes with new exterior colour options, including Mantis Green, Tanzanite Blue, Ice White and Lava Grey. Buyers also have the choice to have the car’s wheels finished in Gloss Black, Silver, Orum or Diamond Cut.

So, what do you think of the McLaren GTS?
