Maserati MC20 Spyder launched

MC20 Spyder makes you want to reach for the stars!

On Thursday, 26 May, in Modena, Italy, Maserati announced the launch of the MC20 Cielo.

The MC20 is a hardtop convertible version of the previously launched MC20. The name carries some meaning in the Maserati world. MC stands for Maserati Corse, which is Italian for racing. The number 20 signifies the year 2020, in which Maserati began a new chapter for its production cars. Cielo means “sky” in Spanish, representing the car’s convertible design.

Equipped with the V6 Nettuno engine, the Cielo offers a mix of sportiness and luxury, courtesy of a specification unique to the segment: the retractable glass roof.

The model is equipped with a state-of-the-art electrochromic window that can instantly be transformed from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button on the central screen, courtesy of Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) technology. Maserati claims the roof is best-in-class in terms of thermal insulation and opening and closing speed (just 12 seconds).

The MC20 spyder is 100% made in Italy and 100% made and developed in Modena, as is the coupé version.

It weighs just 65 kg more than the coupé and has the same weight-to-power ratio, the same carbon fibre chassis and will also launch a future electric version.

Maserati has followed a minimalist design language in the making of the MC20, where function follows form. Even though they look good, the butterfly doors provide easy access in and out of the car while showing the carbon fibre cockpit and unmasked front wheel.

Maserati launched the car in a new three-layer metallic colour known as Acquamarina, available as part of the Maserati Fuoriserie customisation programme.

The new model also adds a suite of Active Safety Systems. Customers can choose to add an optional audio system by Sonus Faber. The audio system is an EISA award-winning in-vehicle audio system that has been specifically optimised to fit the unique acoustic needs of the spyder’s cabin.

At the World Premiere of the new Maserati spyder, the bond with the sky will be the central theme to take you into a new, holistic dimension: just raise your eyes and look up to the sky.
