Manhart Turns The Plug-In Hybrid BMW M5 Into A 910hp Super Sedan

BMW impressed the world when it revealed the latest M5 of the G9x generation. A plug-in hybrid comprising a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with an electric motor, delivering a formidable 727hp and 1,000Nm straight out of the factory, is just fabulous.

But while those figures already rivalled exotic sports cars, the M5’s weight and size left room for tuning specialists to extract more. Meet the Manhart MH5 900E, a reimagined version of the hybrid M5 that cranks output to an earth-shaking 910hp and 1,200Nm, making this five-meter luxury sedan faster, sharper, and far more menacing than BMW ever intended.

From Hybrid Muscle, To Supercar Territory

The secret to the MH5 900E’s staggering output lies in a carefully engineered series of upgrades. Manhart swaps out the standard turbochargers for its own high-performance units, supported by the MHtronik powerbox that fine-tunes engine mapping for maximum efficiency and output.

To let the reworked V8 breathe, a full stainless-steel exhaust system with valve control has been fitted, accompanied by four matte black tailpipes, each measuring 115mm in diameter. For those seeking an even wilder soundtrack and performance edge, Manhart race downpipes are available, though they lack TÜV approval and are strictly for export markets.

The result is a powertrain that delivers performance figures usually reserved for lightweight supercars, edging ever so close to hypercar territory. Yet here it is, wrapped in the body of a sedan or touring car. To rein in this immense force, the MH5 900E retains BMW’s factory-fitted carbon-ceramic braking system, with the option for Manhart to customise braking hardware further upon request.

Suspension & Dynamics

Manhart understands that power alone is meaningless without control. The MH5 900E receives a suspension overhaul, either through Manhart’s own lowering springs developed in partnership with H&R or via a KW Variant 4 coilover kit.

The car rides on Manhart’s 22-inch Concave One forged alloys, a proven design chosen for both strength and reduced unsprung weight. The satin black finish of the wheels on the example shown here contrasts beautifully with the champagne-colored decal kit. Customers can also opt for alternative finishes or downsize slightly to a 21-inch fitment.

Carbon Aesthetics

Visual aggression comes courtesy of Manhart’s extensive catalogue of carbon fibre add-ons. At the front, a carbon spoiler lip and canards sharpen the stance, while side skirts extend the visual flow along the body. At the rear, a carbon roof spoiler, trunk lid spoiler, and a reworked diffuser enhance both aerodynamics and aesthetics.

Completing the exterior is Manhart’s unmistakable decal kit, with champagne-coloured stripes and lettering running across the deep black bodywork, leaving no doubt about this M5’s tuning pedigree.

Inside the MH5 900E

The interior receives a touch of bespoke Manhart refinement. Floor mats embroidered with the tuner’s logo add subtle branding, while a luxurious Alcantara headliner elevates the cabin ambience to match the car’s performance persona.

True to form, Manhart keeps the upgrades focused and purposeful, ensuring that the MH5 900E retains its everyday usability as a high-performance executive sedan while offering a distinctly bespoke feel.
