Lancia gives the Ypsilon a final update before retirement

The successor is expected in 2024

The Lancia Ypsilon is a true dinosaur in automotive terms. Introduced in 2011, the second generation of the little city car continues its career peacefully in Italy, awaiting a descendant due in 2024. As it enters its final stretch, the car is once again receiving very slight changes. Although minimal, the modifications concern the aesthetics, the technological content and the mechanics.

From the outside, the Italian car has hardly changed at all. The only detail is that the front grille is now gloss black with the Silver trim level. A new colour is added to the catalogue, Verde Rugiada, a green tending towards light blue already present on the cousin Fiat 500. The rest is status quo. On board, the Ypsilon is minimalist with blue inserts on the steering wheel, air vents and gear knob.

For the seats, the Ypsilon offers a new SEAQUAL YARN upholstery option made from recycled plastic. Although still with analog dials, the instrument cluster has been updated with a revised trip computer. The biggest change is the touchscreen that allows wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. There’s also a reversing camera and an induction charger.

Under the bonnet, the Ypsilon is now a hybrid with the Fiat 500’s 1.0 litre three-cylinder producing 69 PS and 92 Nm of torque. It is combined with a small 12V electric motor to reduce fuel consumption. As a mild hybrid, the Ypsilon cannot run entirely on electric power. An Ecochic version with dual fuel petrol/LPG will also be available. In both cases, only a 6-speed manual gearbox will be offered.
