At the India Urban Air Mobility Expo, US-based Electra.aero and Delhi-headquartered Hunch Mobility inked a memorandum of understanding. According to the paperwork, the duo will join forces to introduce the former’s electric-hybrid aircraft, the 9-seater EL9, on the latter’s platform to strengthen India’s regional air travel. The announcement came from India Urban Air Mobility Expo 2025, hosted by CII (Confederation of Indian Industry) as an extension of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
The idea is simple. Both companies will converge their creations to revolutionise air travel for underserved regions. Where the US firm is pressing to put the above-mentioned aircraft into production as soon as possible, the Indian company has the expertise to launch on-demand air travel services effectively.

The aircraft in question is called the EL9 Ultra Short. The design was unveiled in November 2024 and will likely be finalised within a year. Electra.aero says the hybrid-electric plane can take off, land in 150 feet, and fly 330 nautical miles (611km) with nine passengers, nine bags, and two pilots. The short runway it requires will play a pivotal role in connecting regions without large airports. Imagine an aircraft taking off from a football field or a car park.
Both companies will join forces to map a network. Utilising the aircraft’s short landing and takeoff capabilities, they will want to connect highly congested ground routes. In addition, both parties will collaborate on marketing activities and designing and developing a framework to establish a robust network for Advanced Air Mobility solutions.
The Electra.aero EL9 Ultra Short is expected to take its first flight in 2027. Post receiving mandatory certifications, it’ll likely enter service in 2029.
