Girard-Perregaux unveils the new Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges

One of Girard-Perregaux’s most iconic designs, this new model is an updated version of their Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges from 2021.

“Born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, a city dedicated to watchmaking, the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges draws on the talents of the Maison’s craftspeople and watchmakers. The location of the Manufacture is optimised to harness light, a resource that has also influenced the design of this contemporary high complication, an ultra-refined expression of Haute Horlogerie. The Skeletonised torso of this model masterfully plays with three dimensional shapes, conferring an aerial perspective of the eponymous three gold bridges that seemingly float in a light-filled case.”

Girard-Perregaux has just unveiled the new Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges at Geneva Watch Days, held from August 29 until September 2, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland. It is an updated version of the 2021 model bearing the same name.

– The dial and caseback sapphire crystals are more curved and appear more symmetrical when viewed from the side.

– A larger and more rounded crown.

– Smoother contours on the design of the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges.

– Shorter lugs and a rounder middle case, for enhanced wearer comfort and those with slimmer wrists.

– Hour and minute hands are satin finished are coated with additional Super-LumiNova.

– The timepiece comes with two straps.

Key features

Functions

The Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges functions include:

– Hours and Minutes.

– Tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

– Small seconds on the tourbillon.

Dial

The Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges dial features include:

– It features an open dial highlighting the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture calibre: GP09400-1273.

– The hour and minute hands, skeletonised and dauphine shaped, are made of pink gold, satin finished, and are coated with luminescent material (blue emission).

– Encircling the open dial, on a pink gold ring on the case, are 13 pink gold hour markers (2 for 12 o’clock), coated with luminescent material (blue emission).

“While the Manufacture has revisited the Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges, first released in 2021, and made subtle improvements, some things remain unchanged. The three gold bridges positioned to the front of the watch remain dressed in black. Girard-Perregaux, a brand known for its nuanced approach to design, presents the trio of gold bridges in a contemporary format. The upper and lower surfaces of the pink gold bridges are dressed in black PVD, while the chamfered edges eschew black coating, revealing a discreet sliver of gleaming pink gold. The flawless execution and notable gleam of each bevelled edge is the product of time-served hands using a small piece of boxwood to achieve the perfect polish; in total, two days of work are required to fully finish the set of three gold Bridges.”

Case and Strap

The Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges case and strap features include:

– Its case is made of pink gold.

– Its case diameter is 44 mm and case thickness is 15.35 mm.

– On its dial side, it features a sapphire anti-reflective ‘box’.

– On its caseback side, it features a sapphire crystal ‘box’.

– It is water resistant up to 30 metres.

– It comes with a black rubber strap with a fabric effect. It is fitted to a triple folding buckle made of pink gold.

– A black alligator leather strap with a golden effect is also provided.

“Eschewing a conventional mainplate, the eponymous bridges not only support the geartrain, barrel and tourbillon, but also provide the essential structural integrity for the remainder of the movement. Appearing to float mid-air, the bridges are braced by neat, openworked plinths that project from the interior wall of the case. Due to the absence of a conventional dial, the indexes are affixed to the case, fulfilling a functional role while preserving the airy appearance of the watch’s interior.”

Movement

The Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges movement features include:

– It is powered by a Girard-Perregaux Manufacture calibre: GP09400-1273, a mechanical automatic movement, which drives the hours, minutes, tourbillon, and small seconds on the tourbillon.
