Mercedes-Benz has revealed that the global debut of the all-new VLE will occur on March 10, 2026, in Stuttgart. The VLE is the first model built on the company’s new, modular, and scalable van platform (VAN.EA). This platform signifies a strategic change for the brand, marking a transition to a dedicated “electric-first” basis for its upcoming van lineup.
A Modular Architectural Foundation
The VLE introduces the VAN.EA platform designed to distinguish luxury private vans from commercial vehicles. Unlike the existing EQV, built on a platform shared with internal combustion engine models, the VLE is based on a dedicated electric architecture. Its modular design enables a flat floor and optimised interior space.
During testing, Mercedes-Benz reported that VLE prototypes travelled about 1,100 km from Stuttgart to Rome with just two 15-minute charging stops. This capability is supported by an 800-volt electrical system built for high-capacity DC fast charging.

Technical Comparison: VLE and EQV
Transitioning from the EQV to the VLE involves notable updates in technical specifications. The EQV, based on the combustion-engine V-Class, was constrained by design factors, including battery placement and aerodynamics.
On the other hand, the VLE’s dedicated architecture aims to overcome these limitations, achieving a range of over 500 km. It also promises charging speeds much faster than the EQV’s peak of 110 kW. Additionally, the VLE features rear-axle steering to enhance manoeuvrability and decrease the turning radius, a capability absent in the current EQV.
Interior Configuration and Versatility
Mercedes-Benz has positioned the VLE to appeal to both private and commercial customers through a flexible interior layout.
- Seating: The vehicle can be configured with up to eight seats, targeting families, leisure-active customers, and shuttle services.
- Handling: The platform is engineered to provide ride and handling characteristics like the brand’s luxury sedans.
- Software: The VLE will be equipped with the Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS), providing updated digital architecture for navigation and automated driving assistance.

Portfolio Expansion
The VLE is central to a wider luxury van strategy. In addition to the standard VLE, Mercedes-Benz has announced the development of a flagship VLS version. Inspired by the Vision V concept, the VLS aims to provide enhanced luxury and “private lounge” amenities, positioning it as a premium option in the van market.
Production and Global Launch
Pre-series production at the Vitoria plant in Spain, updated for VAN.EA architecture, is underway. After the March 2026 debut, the VLE will be released in the second half of the year, available in Europe, China, and North America.
