Etihad And Virgin Australia To Terminate Ties Next Year

A joint statement from Etihad Airways and Virgin Australia confirms the two have decided to part ways from their ties. Beginning June 1, 2025, the duo will end their unilateral codeshare agreement and the bilateral frequent flyer partnership. Why the breakup? Per the official release, neither airline could find common ground for strategic direction in the future. As a result, flyers cannot book Virgin-operated flights through Etihad’s booking channels and vice versa.

What happens to bookings that have already been made? They stand as is. However, members will not earn flyer miles on the codeshare flights from the above date. Etihad has confirmed that it will increase flights to Sydney and Melbourne in the summer of 2025.
