Emirates Set To Boost Australia Routes

Presently, Emirates operates three daily flights to Sydney. Two use the airliner’s flagship Airbus A380 aircraft, and one flies a Boeing 777-300ER. Starting November 4, 2023, the Boeing widebody jet will be replaced by an Airbus A380, making the Dubai-Sydney route an all double-decker affair. This move will help the airline increase the daily seating capacity by more than 260 on each return flight, boosting the weekly seats by nearly 2,000.

The two A380s already operating between Dubai and Sydney boast a four-class configuration, including a Premium Economy cabin. The replacement for the 777-300ER will feature a three-class layout, summing to 489 seats. This flight will depart from Dubai at 21:30 and land in Sydney at 18:20. The return leg will start from Sydney at 21:10 and arrive in Dubai at 04:30 (all times are local).

Besides boosting its seating capacity on the Sydney route, Emirates is also in talks with Adelaide Airport to restart nonstop services. The Dubai-based carrier awaits the arrival of an Airbus A350, which should be part of the fleet in the summer of 2024. That will help the airline free up more long-range aircraft for destinations like Adelaide.

Currently, Emirates runs 63 flights to Australia. Cumulatively, they offer nearly 56,000 seats to and from its four major points – Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.

airBaltic Launches Three New Flights From Riga

As part of its 2024 summer season, Latvian airline airBaltic has launched three new flights from its primary hub, Riga. All three are direct flights to Skopje, Chisinau and Pristina. The carrier will fly two weekly flights to the three cities mentioned above.

Skopje is the capital of North Macedonia, and the flight here from Riga will take about 2 hours and 46 minutes. The nonstop service from Riga to Chisinau, Moldova’s capital, will take 2 hours and 30 minutes. Lastly, the flight time between Riga and Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, should take about 2 hours and 50 minutes.

airBaltic aims to offer 15 new routes from the Baltics and Tampere during the summer season. All flights will be operated on an Airbus A220-300.

LOT Polish Airlines To Add Three Embraer Jets Soon

Poland’s flag carrier, LOT Polish Airlines, has decided to lease three new Embraer E195-E2 jets from lessor Azorra. The first of the trio will join the carrier’s fleet by July end, while others should get into action within Q3 of 2024. LOT says the transition of flight crews from E1 to E2 aircraft won’t take more than a few days.

The Embraer E192-E2, a single-aisle jet, can seat a maximum of 146 passengers. However, LOT Polish Airlines has chosen a relatively comfortable layout of 136 seats in a single class. The airline’s fleet presently comprises 43 Embraer E-Jets, making it one of the largest operators of the said aircraft family in Europe.
