What does the agreement mean for flydubai?
During the Dubai Airshow 2025, flydubai entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus to acquire 150 A321neo aircraft, marking it as a new Airbus customer. The agreement was announced at the Dubai Airshow 2025 by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, and Christian Scherer, CEO of Commercial Aircraft at Airbus. Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s CEO, also participated in the event.
How does this align with Dubai’s vision?
flydubai described the agreement as a milestone that supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33. The airline stated that adding the A321neo fleet will diversify flydubai’s operations and strengthen its role in Dubai World Central’s expansion, which aims to become the world’s largest airport.
What benefits will the A321neo bring?
The A321neo, part of the A320neo Family, offers over 20 per cent fuel savings and lower CO₂ emissions than earlier single-aisle planes. It features new engines, Sharklets, and cabin upgrades for comfort and efficiency. Airbus notes it can run on up to 50 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), aiming for 100 per cent SAF use by 2030.
Why is this significant for Airbus?
Christian Scherer welcomed flydubai as a new customer, highlighting Airbus’s strengths in range, efficiency, and passenger experience. By October 2025, nearly 100 customers had ordered over 7,200 A321neo aircraft worldwide.
