De Bethune unveils a stunning new two-hand watch

• The DB25xs Sand Winds has a titanium dial “with two exclusive finishing techniques” that evoke a desert landscape. • It is powered by an in-house manual-winding movement that features two De Bethune Patents and two De Bethune Innovations.

What is the new De Bethune DB25XS Sand Winds?

The DB25xs Sand Winds is a two-hand watch from De Bethune’s DB25 Collection. Its “radiant dial” is inspired by nature. Crafted from titanium, the DB25xs Sand Winds is powered by a sophisticated manual-winding movement.

What are its dial and case features?

Its titanium dial features random guilloché and natural oxidative heat treatment,” two techniques developed at De Bethune. This results in a yellow surface “featuring a mesmerising hypnotic shimmer evoking the ripples of wind across vast expanses of sand.”

The brown hour and minute hands are crafted from polished titanium. The brown hours and minutes ring (outer dial) is crafted from polished titanium. It features circular titanium hour-markers.

Its case is crafted from polished Grade 5 titanium, measuring 40.6 mm (diameter) * 8.8 mm (thickness). Dial side and titanium caseback feature a sapphire crystal (1800 Vickers hardness) with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water resistant up to 3 ATM or approximately 30 metres. The watch comes with a brown extra-supple alligator leather strap, with alligator lining, fitted with a Grade 5 titanium pin buckle.

Does the movement have advanced technical features?

De Bethune DB25XS Sand Winds.
Left: Notice the white gold inserts on the dial, the circular hour-markers and the minutes scale. The integrated and hollowed lugs are a signature design feature of de Bethune. Right: A futuristic modern-beat manual-winding movement that adheres to and respects haute horology codes from the past. Winding and time-setting is performed via the crown at 3 o’clock. De Bethune watches are a study in titanium, be it the dial, case, and elements of the movement. The DB25xs Sand Winds is no exception. A conversation piece at watch GTGs for sure.

Yes. It is powered by calibre DB2005, an in-house manual-winding movement that drives the hours and minutes. It measures 30 mm (diameter), comprises 160 parts and 27 jewels, beats at a modern frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and delivers a power reserve of 6 days or 144 hours.

Movement finishing: The silver plate and triangular-shaped barrel bridge cover feature the brand’s “Côtes De Bethune” motif. Barrels are hand snailed. Steel parts are hand polished and chamfered.

Technical features:

  • Self-regulating twin barrel (able to deliver 6 days power reserve). De Bethune Innovation (2004).
  • “Titanium balance wheel with white gold inserts, optimised for temperature differences and air penetration.” De Bethune Patent (2016).
  • “De Bethune” balance-spring with flat terminal curve.” De Bethune Patent (2006).
  • The movement features a silicon escape wheel.
  • “Triple pare-chute shock-absorbing system.” De Bethune Innovation (2005).
