Confirmed: The next Bugatti Hypercar will have a “Totally Bonkers” Combustion Engine

The engine will be developed by none other than Rimac

It’s an end of an era at Bugatti. The French hypercar brand will be saying goodbye to its iconic W16 engine. The Mistral and Bolide will be the last cars to be powered by the iconic engine and their deliveries will be complete by 2024, the year in which the W16 will be 20 years old. Question marks regarding the future of the brand are looming.

Ever since Bugatti’s merger with Rimac, petrolheads all around the world have feared that the day is not far when the Bugatti logo will basically be seen on future RImac cars. Even before the Bugatti-Rimac brand was formed, it was revealed that the people at Bugatti wanted to replace the Chiron with a Ferrari Purosangue-like SUV which would be electric. All that sounded pretty daunting.

But Mate Rimac has other plans – the enthusiastic CEO of the Croatian firm is a true petrolhead. In a chat with AutoExpress, he has spilled the beans regarding what next for Bugatti and what they have in the pipeline.

In the interview, Mate Rimac clearly stated that the identities of the Bugatti and Rimac brand will be maintained with the former being “all about heritage and craftsmanship and 100 years of history” while the with the latter he wants “absolutely insane, bonkers, full-electric – drifting at 60km/h with a gigantic cloud of smoke behind you” kind of stuff.

So does Mate Rimac have a clear idea regarding the Chiron’s successor? Yes he does. Mr. Rimac told AutoExpress: “I knew exactly what I wanted the next car [after the Chiron] to be and we started developing a combustion engine on our own – it’s totally bonkers what you will see next year.”

“I think everybody will be blown away when they see what we did. We started developing a new combustion engine two years before we took over the company, which is something I guess nobody expected.”

Mate Rimac further explained that the Chiron’s successor won’t just have that “totally bonkers” engine but it will also be a “hypercar rearranged as a hybrid.”

Mark your calendars, ladies and gentlemen, the Chiron’s successor will come sometime next year!
