Casio Launches the Unexpected!

While there were rumours floating around for the last month or so about the impending launch of the Casio automatic watch line-up, Casio finally confirmed it today by announcing the new addition to their Edifice line-up: Casio Edifice EFK-100 with an automatic movement.

This model comes in four different dial colours, namely black, blue, green and white. The black dial is of forged carbon material that comes in two case versions – A stainless steel one and a fully blacked-out piece with a rubber strap. The other coloured dials do have the forged dial design, but are not of carbon material.

Each of these watches is 39mm in size with 12.5mm thickness and houses the Seiko NH35 movement (This was confirmed by Jody of the ‘Just One More Watch’ YouTube channel who received two pieces for review). The movement has manual winding with approximately 40 hours, hacking function and 24 jewels. The watch comes with 100m water resistance and a sapphire crystal. The overall design is simple, however, the talking point is definitely the dial (Apart from the fact that Casio has an automatic watch now) and also comes with a case-back crystal that showcases the movement.

I have always wondered why Casio never ventured into the automatic timepiece world and accepted that they were content with providing innovations in the battery-powered world. Now they have changed that perspective and while this may be a start to see how Casio fans guage, I am looking forward to seeing what more they bring out in future.

Would you get one? It’s a collectible considering it will be the first one of something Casio has never created before. I will definitely try to get my hands on one if I can.
