CARL F. BUCHERER LAUNCHES MANERO MINUTE REPEATER IN TITANIUM

A Spectacular Grand Complication Timepiece combining a Minute Repeater, Tourbillon, and Triple Peripheral Technology.

Dubai Watch Week: 16th – 20th November 2023.

Carl F. Bucherer (CFB) – the Lucerne, Switzerland based prestigious watchmaker has chosen Dubai Watch Week (DWW) to launch two exquisite timepieces – the Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral ‘Green Paradise’ and Manero Minute Repeater in Titanium. Both are one-of-a-kind piece unique timepieces and created especially for DWW. Founded in 1888, Carl F. Bucherer has always stood for excellence, innovation, and passion. An internationally renowned global brand, with a global presence, they are ‘characterized by its founder’s pioneering spirit and the cosmopolitan spirit of its home city of Lucerne.’

Both these timepieces ‘are designed with Dubai’s ultra-modern, urban lifestyle in mind. Juxtaposing contemporary styling with traditional craftsmanship, and unmistakable boldness with nuanced subtleties, they also reflect the character of Dubai itself.’ In CFB’s own words, ‘the styling of the two new watches represents the epitome of CFB’s Manero product family, combining contemporary aesthetic and material choices that embody the essence of life in the world’s most vibrant cities. In this respect, and by featuring the Swiss watchmaker’s highest complications and expertise in Peripheral Technology, they expertly manifest the brand’s new maxim, ‘Exploring Time’ – a phrase which embodies both CFB’s 135-year heritage in watchmaking as well as its forward-looking, pioneering spirit.’

Manero Minute Repeater in Titanium

Design, Case and Movement:

The Manero Minute Repeater in Titanium is a Grand Complication timepiece powered by in-house calibre CFB MR3000, which took six years to develop, and comprises of 617 individual parts. It takes CFB’s ‘most-skilled watchmakers more than a week to assemble.’  Calibre CFB MR3000 demonstrates Carl F. Bucherer’s Triple Peripheral Technology:

– Peripheral winding system. (The peripheral-rotor or oscillating weight, crafted in 18K rose gold is visible caseback side.)

– Peripherally suspended floating tourbillon positioned at 12 o’clock on the dial.

– Minute Repeater with a Peripherally mounted regulator, which according to CFB is ‘arguably the most sophisticated complication in the art of watchmaking.’

The dial is crafted in 18K white gold Pd210, with an electroplated and grained pattern. The hour and minute hands are both crafted in 18K rose gold. There are 8-indexes crafted in 18K rose gold denoting the hours, with individual minute markers between the indexes. The index at 1 o’clock and 11 o’clock is shorter in length due to the presence of the tourbillon cage at 12 o’clock on the dial. Where there would be an index each at 5 o’clock and 7 o’clock, is replaced with the two sculpted hammers of the minute repeater. The peripherally mounted regulator of the minute repeater is located above 6 o’clock. The discreet display positioned between the 9 o’clock index and the centre of the dial indicates the current mode of the watch, for example whether the crown is pulled out or the minute repeater is active.

The case is made of titanium and has a polished and brushed finish. It has a case diameter of 43.8 mm and case thickness of 12.48 mm. In CFB’s own words, ‘refining the titanium case also demanded additional R&D to ‘tune’ it perfectly, to ensure maximal resonance when the gongs are struck.’  The dial side has a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, and caseback has a sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coating on both sides. Water resistance is 10 metres or 1 bar.

The timepiece comes with a black hybrid rubber strap with a ‘Milky Way’ texture, featuring a quick-release system, and a DLC-coated titanium and stainless-steel pin-lock folding clasp.

In-house automatic calibre CFB MR3000 powers this timepiece. It’s peripheral rotor or oscillating weight is crafted in 18K rose gold. Its functions are hours, minutes, minute repeater with two strikes on gongs – activated by a slide on the left side of the case, floating tourbillon at 12 o’clock on the dial, small seconds on the tourbillon cage, a stop-seconds function, and mechanical protection function. It comprises of 617 components, has 47 jewels, and a power reserve of 65 hours. The calibre is visible through a sapphire caseback.

In CFB’s own words, ‘its mechanism is finely orchestrated to produce two different tones on two gongs which, along with the sculpted hammers, can be admired, most unusually, through cut-outs at the edge of the dial. A window above 6 o’clock showcases the watch’s innovative regulator, which sets the beat of the chimes. This patented regulator is mounted peripherally via three low-friction ceramic ball bearings. However, a protective mechanism built into the movement prevents inadvertent misuse: visible via the discreet display at 9 o’clock, it indicates the current mode of the watch – a blue dot shows that the crown is pulled out, and a musical note lets the wearer know that the minute repeater function is activated. Another safety measure further ensures the protection of the watch: the crown cannot be pulled out when the repeater mechanism is running – it locks. Conversely, when the crown is pulled out, the repeater mechanism is locked.’
