BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new M 1000 RS at EICMA 2026 in Milan, Italy. It is a hypernaked motorcycle based on the M 1000 RR superbike, incorporating several components and technologies from the flagship superbike. The hypernaked is dubbed by the German manufacturer as the world’s most powerful hypernaked motorcycle.

What does the RS designation stand for?

The RS designation stands for Rennsport, and it holds a historical significance to the BMW brand and its racing heritage. Over the years, the moniker has been associated with models such as the RS 255 Kompressor, produced between 1935 and 1939, and the RS 54. With the M 1000 RS, BMW Motorrad reimagines the RS badge into its modern M motorcycle portfolio.

The BMW M 1000 RS makes a clear statement. RS stands for Rennsport – and that is exactly what you feel in every detail. With 218 hp, maximum precision and a character all its own, it is the world’s most powerful hyper naked bike. And because true exclusivity needs limits, we are building exactly 1,000 units. More performance. More character. It simply does not get more M than this.

What engine powers the BMW M 1000 RS?

The BMW M 1000 RS is powered by a 999cc inline-four engine derived from the M 1000 RR. It produces 218 hp at 14,500 rpm and 113 Nm of peak torque at 11,000 rpm. The engine’s power output is transferred to the rear wheel through a six-speed transmission.

BMW claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 283 km/h. The hypernaked also features a full titanium exhaust system as standard.

At 218 hp, BMW’s claim that the M 1000 RS is the most powerful hypernaked stands true, since most of its competitors carry the same engine as their fully faired counterparts, but in a detuned specification, whereas the M 1000 RS retains the RR supersports full performance specification. Additionally most models in the segment produces power between 190hp – 214 hp, putting M 1000 RS claimed 218 hp output well above its competition.

What chassis, suspension and braking hardware does it get?

The M 1000 RS is built on an aluminium bridge-type frame that uses the engine as a stressed member. It uses the BMW M 1000 R with the M Competition Package as its technical foundation. Its hardware includes electronically controlled Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) suspension, alongside the M rider footrest system carried over from the M 1000 RR.

As for the braking system, it gets M braking hardware derived from the M 1000 RR, with dual 320 mm front discs and a 220 mm rear disc.

What electronic features does the BMW M 1000 RS offer?

The BMW M 1000 RS comes equipped with several electronic and convenience features as standard. These include Riding Modes Pro, Dynamic Damping Control (DDC), Gearshift Assistant Pro, cruise control, heated grips and Keyless Ride. The motorcycle also features BMW’s Tyre Pressure Control (RDC) system.

What are the BMW M 1000 RS’s design highlights?

The BMW M 1000 RS adopts a distinctive dark aesthetic, with its design combining carbon-fibre components, brushed aluminium and exclusive M detailing.

One of its prominent design features is the matt carbon-fibre M winglets with RS lettering. These components serve an aerodynamic function while contributing to the motorcycle’s racing-inspired appearance. It also gets M carbon wheels, contributing to its carbon fibre-laden dark aesthetics.

Other distinguishing details include a brushed aluminium fuel tank, new graphics, matt carbon-fibre body components and an M seat finished in Alcantara-like material with RS embroidery.

What is the availability of the BMW M 1000 RS?

The BMW M 1000 RS will be limited to 1,000 units worldwide. BMW Motorrad has confirmed that the motorcycle will be available through its dealerships from March 2027.
